What happens if the girl prefers to stay in Japan or wants to have regular contact with her mother? Can she be forced to go and live with her father?
Anyway, how come these cases always involve children under 10? Don't divorced parents with teenage children have similar disputes?

I think fish farming will probably be the way to go. There is a really good documentary on this in the superb BBC documentary series "The Blue Planet."
Unfortunately, most people, when they go shopping for fish, neither know nor care if the fish on display is an endangered species.
Posted in: With overfishing a big issue, what is the best fish to eat in terms of species that reproduce quickly, are still in good supply and are caught using methods that minimize bycatch and damage to the ocean floor?

Children can be so adorable at that cute age from 2-7. What goes wrong? How do they turn into terrors like that? I'm glad I'm not the father of a teenager. Don't think I could cope.

Actually, one positive way to look at this is that the testing procedures worked and the radioactive rice was identified before it could be shipped to market.

From what I have seen of Tom Cruise in Tokyo, he is one of the few movie stars who genuinely enjoys interacting with his fans in Japan. I remember seeing TV programs showing him on the bullet train posing with every fan for a photo during the trip to Osaka.
Most other stars couldn't care less about their fans. They are basically required to come over to Japan by their contracts. They walk the red carpet, shake hands, do dozens of 10-minute interviews one after another and then disappear into the night. If they are really unlucky, they have to appear on SMAP X SMAP.
You're a good man Tom.

One of my favorite hotels. There always seem to be incredibly beautiful women in the lobby at any time of the day or evening.
The Tree of Hope is a nice gesture. For the children, there is not much they can do to help the Tohoku but putting messages on a tree is something they can understand.

I quite like the boots. I wonder what the historical significance or tradition behind them is.

Obama's interpreter is probably at fault in this case. The Japanese language is so vague that she probably assumed that is what Noda was saying. When is Japan going to get a PM who can speak English fluently?

I agree zichi. Who knows what was going on that day? Maybe the rescue vehicle got washed away before it could get to the kindergarten.
It's very easy after the event to say the government should have done this, TEPCO should have done that, teachers should have done this. Nobody had any idea of how cataclysmic the tsunami was until it was upon them.
In a chaotic situation like that, there are going to be losses unfortunately.

Only the board can rehire him and the board know they would all lose their jobs if they do. He also wouldn't know who he can trust and who he couldn't trust. He'd have to bypass senior managers and department heads but who does that leave? You can't run a huge company with rookies. You need long-term staff.
Another point is that nobody likes whistleblowers, no matter how noble their motives. I doubt that even young employees would respect Woodford.

I would say no. Whistleblowers are not respected, no matter how noble their motives are. Furthermore, Woodford would have no way of knowing who he could trust and who he couldn't. He would have to fire the whole board and probably all senior managers and division heads. That doesn't leave him with many experienced personnel to rebuild the company with.
I think he should use this experience and move on. Hopefully, he got several months salary as part of his severance package.

I've bet Becky a few times. She is a very nice young lady and immensely popular among Japanese people of all ages. I don't see why so many readers here have to insult her.

I think they are the best in the world, especially in terms of the number of services they offer. My only gripe is that every time they stock a product I like, it's gone after two weeks, replaced by the next new item.

Everybody seems intent on calling them names, and being critical of their marriage, without acknowledging that they seem to be very much in love (judging from the photo and what they have said about their marriage many times).
I say good luck to them. My mother was 19 when she married my dad who was 31 and they had 44 years of bliss together.
