And yet they'll still make money, meaning the stuff's overpriced to begin with. They should PERMANENTLY lower prices across the board. Doing this will only win customers back for three days.

"Noda needs the help of the opposition to pass a package of tax and social reform bills and see through his unpopular plan to raise consumer tax from 5% to 8% in early 2014 and 10% in late 2015."

If Noda thinks the reshuffle will win him cooperation from the LDP he's dumber than I thought. They will simply pounce on this as 'proof' that Noda is incapable of leading the nation, and as usual they'll demand he dissolve the Lower House for an election, etc.

Hide Suzuki: " That's more than enough for me to believe the whalers over the SS guys."

I would say that's more than enough for you NOT to believe in Watson. The whalers have told plenty of lies as well, the biggest one being, of course, that the primary reason for whaling is science.

“The Institute of Cetacean Research strongly condemns the Sea Shepherd and its continued dangerous and violent actions against Japanese vessels and crews in the Antarctic,”

Not as dangerous as throwing stun grenades and firing sonic weapons at helicopters! Not to mention the water canons. If anyone is violent here, it's the whalers.

I'm against a 'fat tax', per se, but I DO think that if a person is taking up two seats they ought to pay an additional fee for the second one (not necessarily the full fare unless maybe the flight is packed). That, or perhaps airlines need to think about putting in larger seats here and there on the plane to accomodate.

My question is, why blur their faces with a mosaic? I realize that when it comes to American troops, as opposed to 'enemy dead', they want to blur the faces or disallow images of coffins or what have you, but these men are a disgrace, and should be seen in their full light. Take off the mosaic blurs -- show the men for whom they are. If they felt compelled to do what they did, surely they can take what's coming to them.

But seriously... what charges will they face (and they will be identified)? NOTHING compared to the gravity of what they've done? Hope they don't mind too much if a Taliban insurgent (or civilian... it's not clear) kills one of them and does the same. They can thank themselves for it.

My Canadian Visa card works here just fine, and I've used my Japanese cards overseas as well (again, Visa and Mastercard). Might have trouble with JCB, but otherwise I don't see why you can't use the cards here or there.

I absolutely loathe Sawajiri Erika, but a beautiful body is a beautiful body, and while I won't rush out to see the movie if the DVD later graces my player I'll be sure to watch (maybe on mute). :)

Obviously she really doesn't know a thing about Cruise if she thinks he is the ideal son. I'm not saying he's a bad guy, but does she know anything about his Scientology beliefs and through them his image of an 'ideal woman'? Lest we forget Cruise got into a LOT of hot water after an interview in which bashed women, and of course psychiatry. It sounds more like she knows nothing about him at all.

As for the show itself, it sounds like a pretty stupid premise for a program. I guess we'll see -- errr... those who bother to watch it will, that is.

elvensilvan: "As the investigations showed, the train driver was the one responsible for the crash."

You could say he is the one DIRECTLY responsible, yes... but whom do you think got him to travel faster as a result of being late? Do you know how these companies work? If you don't stop bang on the mark, or if cause even ONE MINUTE of lateness on a busy line you are subject to all sorts of punishment and menial tasks. I don't at all recall reading that he 'fell asleep', so I'm not sure what you are talking about, but there is no doubt he was pressured into going faster because he was running late at stops. This is a common practice, and THAT is why executives and people in charge of safety were being put on trial.

It'll be news when the suicide rate does NOT top 30,000, but that's not going to happen until adequate care and support are provided. There needs to be more 24-hour support lines, and places where people can go to talk to psychiatrists if necessary. Such things should not be hidden as though they were taboo -- they need to be thoroughly announced and people encouraged to go if they feel the need.

“We heard different statements from Iran. We heard threats and then we heard denials. I hope that this tone (the denials) will prevail in the region,”

He hopes denials prevail? He really must be a Japanese politician.

Anyway, like I said yesterday, Gemba and Japan must really be kicking themselves over the insistance and reliance on Iran for oil. They talk of sanctions and have to follow the US, but they still want Iran's oil. Can't have your cake and eat it, too.

Nicky: Sorry for your experience. Sounds horrible, and if anyone were blaming me for a baby crying I would seriously consider clocking them, regardless of the charges. I've flown heaps of times, to Hawai'i or otherwise, and I've seen different attitudes based on different flight attendants, but by and large they have been good. I did get REALLY upset when they asked me to change my seat so a married couple could be together for their honeymoon -- only to go back and find out it was not that case at all (they gave me a bottle of wine as compensation later) and they put me next to some very irritable Aussie (and I later freaked out on him when he asked me "how many times are you going to get up?" after I knew they shuffled the passengers based on.... well... not sure). The end result was I was the LAST person to get off the plane because I had to wait for everyone to leave so I could go back and get my bags....

Anyway, this jerk needs a minimum one year sentence.

'“The women’s soccer team gave us great hope and brightness at a time when Japan faced a series of hardships” after the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami, Chief Cabinet Secretary Osamu Fujimura told a news conference in Tokyo.'

Nothing like milking a disaster and later success to try and make yourself look good, eh?

'Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, who was visiting Ishinomaki, one of the devastated cities in northern Japan, told reporters: “It is encouraging news as the new year has just begun. I’m proud of her.”'

I'd say Sawa should run for office, but clearly she's overqualified as she has actual skills.
