Potsu at 09:08 AM JST - 24th December Then why aren't they ??

Partly because it's in the Antarctic, far away from anyone to actually see it happen. Then, they are careful where they make port. However, some of the members ARE actually wanted by authorities in some countries.

There are strict regulations limiting the number of whales they can catch and kill and they are always well under that number each year. Most of the "hate" against the Japanese whalers is from severely misunderstood assumptions and lack of education on the matter.

Everyone else above who mentioned that the Sea Shepherd is in the wrong is absolutely correct. What THEY are doing is illegal and should be stopped. JHansen, if the US Navy was to get involved, they would PROTECT the whalers from the pirate and terrorist actions of the Sea Shepherd. THAT is how the world works, it's called International Law, and the only ones not abiding by it, are the members of the Sea Shepherd. It's a matter of fact, not opinion.

thedbc at 08:01 AM JST - 23rd December Can you be any more shallower than to have a party for yourself. In front of the media for all to see.

How on earth did you come to that conclusion from this article?????

It's the AneCam agency that threw the b-day party for her for advertising/promotional reasons.

    Ebihara..... soooooo good!!

A bunch of my friends in the US saw the US premier at the 3D theaters and even the skeptical ones were blown away and raved about the seamless execution of 3D animation and live action filming this movie has. I can't wait to see this!!

^^ Agreed, the Sea Shepherd Society (aka terrorist cell) are by legal definition, "criminals" and by international law, "pirates". That's not a matter of "opinion" or massaging the truth, it really is the legal definition.

So, are they trying to show off how much money they have? Do they really consider speakers in the middle of the vast open ocean a weapon? I could really only see this harming the actual whales they claim to be trying to protect. The gasoline burning Sea-Doo attachment is also a nice little addition. I also wonder if they are aware of the MASS amount of very toxic and harmful chemicals involved in making the carbon composite hull?

At first glance, I thought it was just another crowded JR line train, then I realized it was just a crowded miniature train.

nightvision at 03:33 AM JST - 22nd December And well, sorry to burst everyone's bubble here, but Christmas is not a Christian festival.

Thank you!! Some common sense here for once.

neverknow2 at 02:00 PM JST - 21st December Sorry American Mike! Christmas is a Christian tradition celebrating the birth of Jesus. Last time I checked, Japan was not a Christian nation. It would be the same as American people celebrating 'O bon'.

Wrong. I'm sure you and your family associate Christmas with Christianity, but not everyone. For some, it's simply a time for celebrating with family, giving gifts, sharing time with loved ones. Simple logic dictates that only a small % of the planets popluation that celebrates Christmas actually associate it with Christianity. Look up the real history of Christmas on google.

neverknow2 at 11:12 AM JST - 21st December My favorite Japanese tradition- Christmas!

I find these types of comments extremely annoying. Does your country "OWN" the rights to "Christmas" and how it should be celebrated?

Anyway, cute pic. I wonder where they found the 2 old white people for this? North Pole? lol

Maria To the question: "What do we eat for the main course at Christmas?" the kid who raised his hand had chosen the right answer (turkey)

"right answer" for those from the UK. We "americans" don't usually consider turkey on Christmas, for us it's a Thanksgiving thing.

Also, Okinawans do the KFC thing but more go for the A&W Christmas Chicken. If you've had the A&W "chubby chicken" you would know why, it's delicious!!

budster2 at 01:59 PM JST - 1st December Don't the Japanese have any say as to how to use their own land?

Yes, and the "Japanese" want to maintain some US Base presense. Many "Okinawans" however, feel differently because it is "their" land.

budster2 at 01:59 PM JST - 1st December What is even more curious is having the Japanese fit the relocation bill????

Read the SOFA and how it works. The US is there as a request by the Japanese Government as "rent-a-cops" basically. If Japan wants them to move, than they have to help facilitate it financially. I know, it sounds weird, but understand the SOFA and understand the situation better.

KinuyeOshiro at 01:19 PM JST - 1st December For Society Mike who believe that Japan Pays Huge Amounts of money into the Okinawan Economy, you have to be in dreamland. The latest figures I read, show that of all the money coming into Okinawa Prefecture resulting from Military Base expendetures, amounts to 5% of the total income to Okinawa and of that 5%, 75% goes to mainland..... need to do homework..

You are the one who needs to do homework because you just stated percents of REVENUE FROM the bases (which are very inacurate btw). What I said was the truth and FACT, the Tokyo Government PAYS Okinawa prefecture a special extra amount of money over the normal alloted annual budget that is specifically for the "burden of hosting the bases" as it is worded by the Japanese Government. It is well known and every year you can read on this site and more, how much they pay. It's public record.

You also misinterpreted my stance on the issue. I only stated what politics views are on it, not my own view. You are correct, Governor Nakaima does take a hard stance on the Futenma closure, but that is obvious and that is only one base (however it's closure results in a few others). What he would NOT support is the closure of ALL the bases and that is what my point was. Personally, I will be very happy when Futenma (and as a result, Kinser, Lester, Hansen) closes and I would even like to see most all of them close eventually (because if it happened suddenly, it would have a very negative effect on the Okinawa economy). My family and my home are in Okinawa, it has been for many years and will be until I die. Trust me, I would LOVE to see a base-free Okinawa, but truthfully, that will never happen for atleast the next 15-20yrs.

DeepAir65 at 11:18 AM JST - 1st December still think it is a waste of time and effort in a non-Christian (or Christian even) country - I know, bah humbug!

WHY!?! This doesn't make sense to me. It has become a tradition for many cultures and in many cases, has nothing to do with religion (thankfully). It's just evolved into a seasonal type thing and I really don't see any reason not to enjoy it.
