tclh there are just wars and unjust wars, there is winnable wars and unwinnable wars. Iraq was unjust and unwinnable same as Vietnam. When you have to con people into going to war just because you don't agree with another countries politics or leaders there is obviously no reason for the war. McCain is a Democrat and Democrats hate to lose as they are fearful of loosing face at any time. McCain would get out Iraq quick if he could find some one like the UN to take over there. However, Bush burnt the Democrats boats going in with his 3 amigos and is stuck there as long as Democrats are in power. McCain showed more than lack of poise and leadership skill when he refered to Obama as that one over there, it came across as racist and elitist, I am sure a lot of people would have picked it up that way and not only the extremists. McCain lost his cool and showed his frustration at not being able to push any points home, he blew it big time.

Nope, people are not losing their minds they did that when they gambled on shares with no real value pushing prices up to stupid levels. Like paying a $1000 for a 10 cent apple like before the first depression. Now people have their minds back and are saying "No way I'm not paying a $1000 for a 10 cent apple."

Japan and China is not expected to be hit for another 3 months but Japan may be hit hard before then. Japan has had 13 years of deflation and stagnation to sort out the banks and stuff them full of cheap money. The next hit will come from no export dollars and as Obama said today America needs to produce its own small green cars not buy them from other countries. Nearly every country is talking towards protectionism and the more people that loose their jobs the less atractive free markets are going to look to politicians who want to keep their jobs.

Noripinhead Palin as an "Attack dog" would make a great cartoon. I'm not sure who she is attacking for though, as her bites are hurting McCain the most. She is doing really well for the Democrats just appearing as a true blue blooded, white suppremacist, Mrs Red Neck America.

The Democrats did not want Palin to loose as she is their greatest asset. Biden played for a draw, if he had wiped the floor with her he would lost a lot of womens votes. Worse than that the Republicans would have dumped her and possibly come up with a better candidate. Biden played it very well you could see in his smile he picked every mistake Palin made and choose which ones to respond to. Palin on the other hand just tried to fit the answers she had rote learned to the questions while trying to campaign at the same time instead of debating. Palin looked like a pre-schooler against a master.

The problem can not be solved unless it is defined right in the first place. Pushing more money into the market will not help as too much money going into the wrong part of the market caused the problem in the first place. The finance sector had too much money and had to try and invest it some where. They made bad investment in the mortgage sector true but they forced up share prices by buying into companies with no assets. Companies who lease, cars, computers, offices and don't even own their stationary until after they use it(stationary is bought on at least 30 days credit) became worth billions of dollars simply because investers had to put their money some where. Many of these companies did not even make a good profit, some are still running at a loss and as some people may notice are now crashing. Investing in companies with no assets is high risk and if you can't afford to throw away the money you should not invested in them. The financial sector however is not investing their own money so could afford to risk other peoples money, so poured cash into one risky venture after another. They had to invest your money as they had to make a living out of it. The clever ones hung around the blue chips like little fish hang around coral, venturing out to grab a profit and quickly diving back in when things turned dangerous. The dummies just kept buying high risk stocks and mortgages with no assets. Pushing money into the market and inflating the share prices instead of investing in slower growth companies with assets and this starved important slow growth companies of money.

Quote from the article above “The center of gravity is here temporarily. ... God forbid it’s here any longer than it takes to get credit moving again.”
With this attitude the government is just throwing money away. Now more companies have no assets than at the start of the Great Deppresion and they want to get further into lumber. When are people going to wake up to the fact that companies worth billions have no assets. Until investment and assets balance in value the stock market can crash at any time like Wall St did in the 30s for the same reason. The only way to stop this happening is to let the dud companies go bust and keep the $700 Billion to restart the economy insteady of bailing out people greedy enough to invest in fresh air which is what they have been doing. It is time to cull and save the healthy companies, not prop up companies that will drag the economy down for years to come. Better a couple of years of pain than another 20. There is no such animal as "mortgage-related assets held by cash-starved financial firms." these so called "assets" are actually "liabilities" the government is taking over on behalf of the tax payer, if they were assets people would invest in them and there would be no cash shortage. No one has said what the government will do with this huge liability once they have it or the cost to the tax payers of holding these liabilities. The cheapest thing would be to turn it into public housing and just write off the $700 bil but the politicians have thought that far ahead yet too busy with elections to think important things through properly.

Natosucks, an article the other day said it was common for Chinese food producers to include melamine in processed foods, even vegtable and meat extracts so if this is the case your list will end up a long one. Food authorities are saying it is not dangerous in food were only small portions are eaten but all those small portions add up. If it is a banned substance in local foods all imports containing it should also be banned. After all it is only to boost the nitrogen content so companies can make false claims about food quality, so why protect companies that cheat.

Some people learn language easily others find it difficult depends on how the brain is wired, how good your teachers are and how motivate you are. I find learning Japanese very boring so find it hard to learn.

"Street gangs the world over have adopted a zero-tolerance policy against pedophilia and violence against children, and a similar rule often exists within prisons, where child molesters are targeted by other convicts."
BPA;Where did you get this fairy tale from? Pedophilia is in every section of society even judges have been found in pedophile rings and every religion has its pedophiles. Why do you think young offenders are not sent to adult prisons and why do the young pretty boys and girls get raped in prison systems? While people tolerate soft porn and prostitution the pedophiles will breed in the shadows because one feeds the other.
Every country that does not have laws which allows its residents to be prosecuted for pedophilia committed in other countries, is aiding the pedophiles of that country.

Problem is most of the real bad guys don't sepuku. Even in the samurai period some leaders who had ordered many others to sepuku were finaly murdered by their retainers who made it look like sepuku to save their clans honor. Many good guys committed sepuku to cover up for idiots and crooks under them or above them. The same crooks or idiots would never have killed themselves so the crooks and idiots multiply while good guys become extinct. Saying that, I would encourage the good guys to try and live to put rights the faults others have caused, while at the same time encourage the crooks and idiots to sepuku before they breed another generation like themselves.

Home ownership is the biggest con of the century. Firstly the truth; no one can "own" their own home in any country. All countries have laws that allow goverments to take back land, if and when they want to, if your house is on it that land it is just too bad. You may get compensation but this is not always market value but you never get compensated for the full cost of being thrown off what you wrongly believed was "your land".
The reason governments create the dream of "owning your own home" is because it creates a compliant work force; you have a big mortgage so are frightend to upset the boss in case you get the sack. Right wing governments do not give incentives like first home buyers grants or tax beaks out of the goodness of their hearts, they do it to create mortgage slaves.
This time the U.S. and other neoconservative goverments have gone too far in their dream of creating more mortgage slaves and created havoc in what used to be the safest part of the financial market. Take away this stable foundation, the mess of assetless and overated shares created by stupid money from superannuation funds is sure to collapse. And yet the neoconservatives still cruise along with their heads in the sand saying market forces will put it all right! "BUT" when asked how? The Magical Market Wonderland is the only words they seem to know, none of them actually knows how it works, just that it fixes every thing.

There is no such thing as earthquake resistant houses, if the ground liquifies or moves a meter or more it is bye, bye house. Subprime is not going to effect Japan so much because of the cheap cash flow the banks have with near zero interest rates. Subprime could however hit the share values of the banks that were overcommitted by investments in that area.

What is a "good standard" of English? English English, American English, South African English, Australian English, Singapore English ................ The English can't define "good English" as English is a living langauge that is changing all the time. It is totally abitary with little snobby groups always pushing their views of what "good English" is. The dominant groups in education come and go with each group trying to inflict their warped views on the English speaking world. English has now been so degraded even English teachers who have been taught to write in short sentences can no longer understand the written English of their grandparents written in long sentences. Adding to the confusion are English "teachers" who do not understand simple concepts of English, like the use of prefixes or suffixes and tell students they are wrong because "they the teacher" can not find the word in a dictionary. The quote should have read very few people can read English accurately, because a lot of English speaking English teachers do not understand English that well. You can not attack the students when the teachers are at fault and comparing Japanese with speakers from countries that were previous English colonies proves little. Japan has some very good English speakers, I was very impressed by some high school students in Hokkaido their English speaking skill and comprehension was better than some expensive private schools in England and their teacher was Japanese. I do however understand the frustration of Kotaro Shibata at the poor educational level of students.

Pasha 51 why promote engineering and science among students when you will lose most of them when they graduate. You have to want to be an engineer or scientist they are born, not created in a class room. You have look after the ones you get, the people who think they want to be engineers because of other personal agendas don't last in engineering, it is too demanding.
