Are these figures including those people that have been dead for decades and whose families have not reported it and still pulling out their pensions? Serious question as if the numbers are as high as some were reporting, it could distort the figures a fair bit.

Well the last paragraph seems to suggest he has fulfilled his aim of getting to the final and now doesn't really care if he wins it. Am also hoping the quotes are just really badly translated.

Japan needs to come up with a better reason for withholding aid to DPRK, and I'm sure if they rubbed their brains together they could find a more valid one.
Am guessing this is making the headlines because of Japan's policy to keep harking on about the abductions.

Surprising, this. Whenever an Apple product is released, the accompanying "story" is a press release. Yet HP's TouchPad has warranted an actual review.

Happens plenty in Okinawa. Have been stopped at T-junctions and have people overtake me at the red light, and then turn right without a care in the world.
Putting your hand up and not looking seems to absolve the driver of all blame and responsibility.

@ReformedBasher- you say that "This clown will be have the rest of his life to regret his actions, just because he could not control himself". So you are assuming he's going to be dismissed from the police force because of his actions? I'm gonna guess he'll receive a suspension for a month, a slap on the wrists, and will be reporting back for duty in September, once everything has been swept under the carpet.

The last sentence seems like it's giving two reasons that we shouldn't worry about this at all. First of all, he was drunk which apparently is an acceptable excuse for the majority of people in Japan (foreigners and especially anyone with SOFA status excluded). And secondly, the victim wasn't covered in bruises and I'm gonna guess will be "persuaded" not to press any charges, so let's forget about it all and continue like nothing has happened.

I love the fact that the 2nd place takes much higher precedent over the woman who actually won the contest. The face of Japan today: pick a celebrity and push them over all else, regardless of talent so that they get all the media attention. If/When it turns out they are not that good then suddenly drop them one day and forget they never existed.

“But I’m responsible for her death and for that, I am very sorry.” - there you go. He's showing remorse for what he's done and so therefore doesn't need to be given a harsh sentence.

He'll be found guilty of abandoning the body and nothing else IMO. 2 years in jail (sequel book potential), a 3-year suspended sentence and the whole incident will be described as "regrettable"
