The strong Yen is a factor, but in some industries it is also because of how the companies see themselves. In one industry I have some links with, Japanese companies feel that because their product is made in Japan, it is automatically better than its competition (and I'm not just talking about Chinese replicas). Prices are inflated hugely and people are realising that the Japanese products are not worth the huge excess in cost over alternatives offered in other countries.

Given what's gone on recently in Japan, I'm going to assume all but strong Republicans are going to believe the White House's record of what has been said.

So this counter will report low readings to make people feel that they're safe, Could you really imagine an announcement of a product that might make Japanese people feel less safe than they think they are.

I was supposed to see the 2005 match in Pyongyang at the May Day Stadium. Was not pleased it got moved to Bangkok at the last minute as it would have been the highlight of the trip.

Al Stewart - The "unemployed" is important as it sensationalizes the news somewhat and gets people commenting about unemployed people in Japan on the site. Note that this wasn't one of the news streams from Kyodo or AP; rather a Japan Today written story.

It's a US base down by the ocean just north of Naha.

Major damage report from my workplace incoming. It looks like one of the ceiling lights is now flickering and not on completely. Emergency services are on standby!

Replace Namie Amuro with Justin Bieber (sp?) if he comes to Japan and backs out of a concert after 6 songs. Am sure the majority of comments would be equally as forgiving.

OssanAmerica - Thinking the same thing as you. Japan is wanting them to protest so they can show how scary and aggressive China is against them. A protest might be just around the corner but they might decide just to let this one go.

Marao you mean? Spent a little time on there. Will be interesting to see it as a base although not a huge surprise as I think Maldives would welcome the income. They will just have to be very careful with the wording of what they agree with the base.
