Americans are outrageously fat too, but in general better looking.

I agree. As proof, look at all the Americans you see in hollywood movies. Absolute stunners, every last one of them, and clearly representative of the population as a whole.

Sounds like sex in a marriage in Japan is meant only to make a baby. I thought sex was a way to express one's love for their mate?!

I thought it was both. Hang on...it is! whoo hoo!

    Redmeatkoolaid,

Regarding http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/2008/01/19/8-barack-obama/, I must say thank you for directing me to it. I have returned to this site with a profound regard for the intelligence and education of JT posters, even if some of them get a bit snarky towards each other at times.

One of the most impressionable features of Richard Sapper’s “Static” clock

You have a nice writing style on the whole Laura, but you'd better check the word "impressionable" in a dictionary or thesaurus, where you'd find it alongside words like "innocent", "naive" and "gullible".

    An utter disgrace.

I'm also wondering when this hits the international news.

Anyone know of any reports yet?

Well, we were all having a good laugh about it in the teacher's room of our school here in Oz this morning.

It seems to have been just a thoughtless remark, which is a big step up from "mispeaking" about dodging bullets at a Bosnian airport. Anybody seen Bulworth, by the way?

A standard can of premium beer in Japan costs 300% more than in North America, which makes no sense at all.

    Nope, just LOTS of yen.

The typo thing is an urban myth, according to wikipedia.

Yamauchi wanted to primarily target the North American market, so he mandated that the game be given an English title. Miyamoto decided to name the game for the ape, whom he felt to be the strongest character.[1] The story of exactly how Miyamoto came up with the name Donkey Kong varies. A popular urban myth says that the name was originally meant to be Monkey Kong but was misspelled or misinterpreted due to a blurred fax

or bad telephone connection.[17] Another story claims that Miyamoto looked in a Japanese-English dictionary for something that would mean stubborn gorilla[18] or that Donkey was meant to convey silly and that Kong was common Japanese slang for gorilla.[5] A rival claim is that he worked with Nintendo's export manager to come up with the title, and that Donkey was meant to represent stupid and goofy.[19] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DonkeyKong(video_game)

And getting back to the wii fit topic, I can see it at least being popular with kids - hopefully those with expanding waistlines!

I take it the PTA stands for Parent Teacher Organization. If so, then they ARE keeping up with the times. They don't want their kids exposed to violence and crude language and behaviour, which is why the show gets such a bad rating, I'd guess.

How come questions like this are posted without any evidence to support them? Come on, JT, show at least a

    little

    professionalism!

Moderator: We don't need "evidence" when we ask questions in the Have Your Say section. The purpose of the section is simply to throw out topics for readers to give their opinions on. Now in this case, if you think that the question has got it wrong and you believe that most young people do know how to cook, then simply state why, so that readers can consider your opinion and respond.

    Driver arrested again, huh?

Yep. It ain't weird, by the way. smartacus. As doedel and Altria say, it's just stupidity, and institutionalised stupidity at that. Which is par for the course in this country, it often seems.

    Fair dinkum!

Ah, now I get it. This is to depict how their parents are getting seriously ripped off by a private school system that is really nothing more than creative accounting to show school averages greater than those of public schools. It's hard to imagine the significance and justification of sending your six year old kid to school in a thousand dollar uniform.

The cynical side of me agrees with you, but here's a thought: The $1000 dollars for those uniforms could be thought of as an early payment into a retirement fund. The kids get the uniforms, and so can go to the best schools, then the most prestigious university, then get the most secure jobs, and finally get to support their parents when mum and dad grow old. Of course, that line of thinking probably comes straight from the cynical side of me anyhow.
