SquidBertFEB. 15, 2012 - 09:32AM JST No one said anything about free After a major natural disaster, you can select to sell bottled water at its normal price or at 10 times the normal cost. The choice you make says something about what kind of person you are or what kind company you are running.

Well said man! It definitely shows the true character of a person or company. Shame on Sony Music and all other music labels for such regrettable & deplorable practices. Exploiting the death of their artists by way of increasing prices to make more profit. I guess profit matters more than human decency to some and that's a damn shame!

The entertainer, who is known just by her first name, claimed that there was an argument after the driver demanded they wear seat belts, during which the driver touched her chest.

I hope this is not true what she's saying. Because if it is true, i can only assume the driver tried to get lucky with his hands thinking these 2 were way too intoxicated to realize. And if he did try to touch her chest and the good stuff, well i guess he would deserve this treatment. But that's only if what she's saying is true.

The world has lost an amazing and irreplaceable artist. She had a gifted voice of an angel. I hope people will remember her for the great music she made and gave to this world, rather then the events that took place in her personal life because nobody is perfect. She will truly be missed by all people who have a great love and passion for music. RIP Ms. Houston.

Stories like these is extremely sad and depressing to hear about. Unfortunately so many people perish from fires at home. Please always double check on things before sleeping at night and remove stuff that may be deemed to dangerous from the home, it's just not worth the risk. Sad and tragic for this family. RIP to those that died.

And this cop is 53-year-old. Wow. Imagine someone stops you on the street or pops around your home pulling out a fake police ID. Many will be unaware and just listen and follow what the fake cop says. Who knows what can happen! This officer needs to be punished the the fullest extent!!!!

Aaron OkoroFEB. 08, 2012 - 08:38AM JST I was told before moving to Japan that you cannot really compare Japanese racism with that of Western Countries because of the lack of history of violence toward foreigners. This pretty much throws that out the window. What a terrible way to die.

Aaron sadly i was one of those people always ranting about these type of thing never going to happen here. Boy was a wrong. This news really knocked me off and made me wake up to some things. Where the crime took place, it's not too far from where i and another fellow poster Dentshop live down in Ootori side.

All i can say is always keep your guard up. In Japan trouble usually don't come to you. Like someone above mentioned, this poor Nepalese probably loved Japan very much. May he rest in peace now. He's left behind a Japanese widow and it's pretty sad he came all the way from Nepal to meet this fate.

I'm upset his staff never helped him when he was being beaten though. If they would have joined in and tried to fight the guys off, his death may have been avoided. True homies will stand for you till death.

ReformedBasherFEB. 09, 2012 - 11:56AM JST nigelboy, I've witnessed a lot of foreigners who speak no or little Japanese be treated well. But I agree that any foreigner (in any country) must learn to speak the local language, if for no other reason than common sense. Still, I would think attitude between the parties concerned would have more bearing than fluency.

ReformedBasher you must be speaking of my type :) Well i agree with you 100% percent.

After living in Japan for over 5 years now, i sometimes feel it's been a real roller coaster ride with the locals. Be really up and down at times. I've realized now Japan is one very unique country in how foreigners are viewed and treated.

I've been to establishments where I have been completely ignored, even though i was in the front of the queue. The staff would not even look at me as though I did not exist. Strange. Were the racist or just nervous of dealing with a foreigner i don't know. But cases such as this is very rare.

Most other times at business establishments I get pretty good treatment, some kind of a special treatment. and hey' I ain't complaining :)

I don't mind Japanese people asking me if I can use chopsticks, do i know how to speak Japanese or it it okay to sit on the floor. I don't believe they're treating me immaturely. I think the other way around where they are being considerate to me and try to make things easy for me.

For example people offer me a sppon or fork sometimes even though I can use chopsticks fine. I appreciate it and think nothing of it.

Of course there will always be a few that try to mock you and look down upon you for being "Gaijin". This is unavaoidable and will happen in such a close knit homogeneous society.

But i think this will happen anywhere, and actually I have lived in places like Canada and Australia, I have been in much worse situations because of my race where physical violence is common and comes to you naturally just because of how you look. Luckily this has never happened to me in Japan. Hopefully it never does. But i know all good things will come to and end someday :)

I get stared a lot and in the beginning it was very annoying. But now it does not even bother me one bit. In fact when someone stares at me, I just look back and smile and it's all good. I even had people come up and talk to me and we became friends after.

I love Japan and will be going nowhere. I've decided to settle in here now and make the best of it. These small things about how Japanese people view foreigners don't bother me anynore.

Bad wrap for Daimaru. If there's anything a business in Japan wants to avoid, it's situations like this. Daimaru is a strong brand. Manager must be going crazy because of this recall and letting store customers down.

I was in Kintetsu yesterday buying some Chocolate, Belgium chocolate. Oh no!

News reports said the taxi driver asked Tomoyori and Makiyo to get out after they refused to wear seat belts.

Driver said absolutely nothing wrong. In fact he was following the law and was concerned more for these 2 fools safety. Back home Taxi drivers carry screw drivers and heavy steel wrenches under their seats for situations just like this when passengers start feeling like God.

KingBasilFEB. 07, 2012 - 07:51AM JST What is the point of having crossings if vehicles aren't obliged to stop for pedestrians? - To alert drivers to the fact that they should be on higher alert for pedestrians for one. Cars don't stop instantly and they never will, no matter how much paint you put on the road. Pedestrians can still take driver's by surprise.

Sorry but that's not the case here in Osaka. It's actually the other way around.** "Cars taking pedestrians by surprise"** - I think that's about right.

Facebook's days are numbered, especially now with Google+ Facebook was a big joke to begin with. It's amazing that it actually became the dominant player in regards to web traffic and time on site. Twitter still has a fighting chance but they need to work more with Google.

I can't wait for the day Facebook goes to the grave like Myspace. Facebook is to the web what little Wayne is to music.
