My sister in laws sister died from smoking pot and driving when she was 19. My old school mate is now diagnosed schizophrenic after smoking for ten years. My best friends brother was just recently committed to a mental institution from smoking pot. In the long term it can destroy your mental health. In the short term if you drive you can die.

I have taught at 20 or so high schools, junior high schools, elementary schools in Japan as well as a top university. Here are some of my insights.

    1. Kids are not disciplined here. They basically can do anything. Especially younger ones. I have been punched at least 100 times by kids for no reason. Many times they try and punch you in the balls!! pinch your ass etc. No one teaches them that this is unacceptable behavior.
    2. The attitude of teachers are that they are kids so are forgiven everything. I was team teaching once and a boy stood up dropped his pants and then pushed his private parts into the face of the boy next to him. I was speechless. The Japanese teacher did nothing.
    3. Teachers are scared of parents and disciplining the kids.
    4. An enormous amount of mentally disabled kids are in classes with no support for the teacher. Young kids all laugh at them and ridicule them and are not punished for it or taught that its not nice or acceptable. Everyone ends up completely ignoring them. They always pass!! They are treated the same even when they are not.
    5. Some teachers can be vicious and malicious and constantly scold kids thus become truly hated. If have seen it. They even hit kids and ridicule them etc.
    6. In every school I have taught I had 2 or 3 students that were so traumatized from bullying from fellow classmates or abusive parents that they could not speak!! not a word or a peep. Completely shattered emotionally. It is very common. Unbelievable. I had one kid so traumatized he sat there holding his pencil case in front of his face to hide it, every lesson. Almost nothing is done to council of help these kids.
    7. Schools and the local boards of education very often get anonymous letters from students threatening suicide because of bullying.
    8. Overall when someone is broken or traumatized I observed that no-one reaches out. Everyone pretends that everything is fine. When I joined my first school there was a 40 year old American teacher. I could tell that this guy was a wreck! 2 weeks later he was dead. He was type 2 diabetic and needed shots everyday or he would die. He was also an alcoholic. His wife kicked him out, he got depressed, drank, missed his shot, and died. Later the Japanese teachers told me they simply pretended he had no problem and simply didn't include him in any of their social events to avoid his behavior. No one tried to help him at all. Nice guy. Very sad. Completely avoidable.

If you are weak in Japan this society will destroy you.

Anyway, I thought I would share some of my insights with the readers to help them put this story into context. Its not all black and white.

What makes walmart competitive is their computer management system. Once an item is bought in a store a message is sent straight to the supplier where ever they are in the world so that they can manage inventory at the lowest cost solution. This is turn allows walmart to be a discounter and offer the lowest prices. They bought 10% of Woolworths in Australia and implemented their system making Woolworths extremely profitable in the process. I am guess they are doing the same with seiyu.

Japanese kids have to spend 20 minutes every day cleaning their own school. This is something I believe that every single school in the world should do.

But Japanese believe that they are only responsible for cleaning their own space. I asked about 100 Japanese why the beaches in Japan were so dirty and the answer I uniformly got was that the beach does not belong to them so they don't care. Japanese only care about keeping what is theirs clean. This is mostly to avoid public shame or ridicule. Lake Biwa and Mt Fuji are classic example of Japanese public spaces being taken for granted and heavily polluted with trash. It is one of the great contradictions of this country. Personally I think keeping your own place neat, tidy, and super clean but then littering public spaces, like beaches and parks, smacks of hypocrisy and is quite frankly ridiculous.

This is why this article is so surprising to me.

I applaud these volunteers, I think its magical, although I don't understand their motivation in the slightest. It is truly bizarre. Who on this planet truly understands the mind of the Japanese?

Maybe they are out to make JTB some more money!! I am cynical.

It all depends on 3 things: 1) How drunk you both are. 2) Whether you are hot enough to get it. 3) Whether they are hot enough for you to want it.

I would guess that most people against it fail on no 2 and that no 1 helps most people with no 2 and 3.

Elaine: How do all the ugly people in the world get laid? Seinfeld: One word....alcohol.

Imagine 2 middle aged fat and ugly people getting drunk and going for it on a first date....or two 18 year old sober sex bombshells going for it 1 hour after meeting each other at the beach.

    Its all relative.

Keep a log book of all doctors that have refused serious ill or injured patients. For every one they reject make sure the doctor and all members of his family gets the same treatment when they are seriously ill.

I would much prefer hot girls taking me back to a hotel and stealing my wallet after they had sex with me and I fell asleep!!

If anyone hasn't noticed the whole world of finance has collapsed under bad debt. Why have a credit card in the first place? Carry just enough cash for the night and when you need more go to a 24 hour ATM.

    Problem solved.

Under 20 = Child. Unfortunately we don't know all the facts. How many witnesses there were. The history of the student or teacher causing trouble. How sexy or conservative the uniform was. What everyone else was wearing. To me it sounds like he was set up. If she was with her friends and also went ahead with wearing it, and they took her pictures while he was not in the room!!! that sounds strange. Why would her friends do that AND then complain???

Maybe she was trying to blackmail him. It happens. I have heard a few stories from J-chicks who did it. I met one girl once a few years back who was 24 at the time who said to her high school teacher in the final year, if you don't give me 30,000 yen and pass me in my test I will accuse you of harassing me. He gave her 50,000yen!!! and she wrote nothing in her test. Unbelievable.

Nothing surprises me any more in this country.
