Will never happen. Japan has had its day in the sun and will slowly slip further and further behind China and eventually Europe. Until there is drastic reform the Japanese economy will continue to suck the life out of it's up and coming workers. Higher birthrate or immigration is the answer but Japan is not very good at doing either.

they had no other option due to the Yalta agreement. Land grab? You bet that's what happens in war. Japan will never get these islands back and without Truman stepping in it would have lost Hokkaido as well. Maybe instead of populist grandstanding Japan should actually once try to get along with a former enemy instead of pouting about lost marbles. If you can't afford to lose you shouldn't play. Perhaps the tradition of crying after losing at sports in Japan transcends into geopolitics as well.

wait another 5 years when the US is even deeper in fiscal trouble and see where things are with the bloated defense spending getting cut. Japan would be wise not to rely on the US for it's defense. When push comes to shove America will run back home, look at Vietnam. The Chinese have already beaten the US once, why would they think that a conventional war wouldn't go their way once more? No way will nukes be used, I hope

Considering Aussie soccer is an also ran in pro sports it's no wonder the Japanese and Koreans are the standard bearers for Asia. Population and economy wise, what other Asian country can compete? China but they already have won enough Olympic medals.

Trouble is they didn't save Apple in 1997, it was ordinary consumers who liked the imac colors. Job's ideas appeal to mass markets not niche creative types. Time will tell but why would you call peoples' well reasoned arguments nonsense?

No! Jobs is a one man show, without him Apple will slowly lose market share and eventually just be another tech company competing with the Chinese. Happy to see it happen, Apple has become the Orwellian monster it was opposed to in 1984. Best wishes to Jobs but he lost the plot about what him and Woz were about back in 1996.

because communists don't grieve? You have to deal with the people in power not the people you would like to deal with.

Headline and text don't match. The apology was for the broadcast not the filming, JT get it right. If you read the text you would see that Chikatta no where ever mentioned anything like an apology for the filming.

Now if Japan could do the same at Chinese and Korean national monuments to war dead it wouldn't have to constantly have to keep buying protection from the US. Nice gesture but as in all war, pure politics.

Asian service is good but impersonal, best service by far Air New Zealand. Wine leaves all others for dead and friendly air crew. After that Korean Air. JAL, Cathay, SA are good if compared to crappy US standards but cold.

nothing is free, any ISP will after being pressured by governments give up any and all data asked for if the bottom-line is affected. Wikileaks and the resultant pressure on financial services to drop them taught us this.

I am relaxed but look at the disparity between the genders in salaries and you should get a bit pee'd off. This society values half of it's population more on the size of it's breasts, eyes lids and ankles than it's intellect and work ethic.
Declining birthrates? You betchya!.

Only in a sexist country like Japan do women get put into a special section where rather than the ability to do the job, cuteness puts you at the top. No wonder women are treated as second class citizens. Why not just have a best news announcer section?

The dude isn't sleeping, who sleeps with their left arm suspended in the air? He isn't resting it on anything so the photographer or sub editor is telling porkies.
