Saying sorry and not acting contrite is an empty apology. Japanese educators and politicians have never acted contrite. As the Asian superpower they believe themselves to be, it is too close to the bone to touch. Better to speak empty words and hope the anger dies down or just dies through old age. Trouble is Politicians keep talking and doing unintentional stuff like this, that anger won't die down.

The report neglected to mention that RIM have abandoned the Japanese market. Thank you DOCOMO for your inept management of the first smart phone platform on the market here, sarcasm intended.

Uhm..... How about a safe word to acknowledge that you are actually molesting the correct person?

And another safe word to allow any party to stop the activity at any time?

You people seriously think every crime like this makes national news? Get real, a client of mine was hospitalized during a mugging here and the news never reported it. Not every murder gets news time as well. Certainly not national news. It all depends on whether it's a slow news day and what some editor decides to run with that day.

However, crime rates in Japan are falling: as the number of young people is declining and most crime is committed by under 40 males, well that segment of the population is much smaller than historically. But on a percentage of population, rates are steady.

Japan is still one of the safest places for personal violent crime and theft. Happy to live here and happy to raise a family here, but I still teach my kids about personal safety. It's not perfect, but who or what is?

It is a little chilly out today for cool biz.

Lets remember, Kagawa was selected because he is the best in his position of all available mid fielders and being Japanese had nothing to do with it. This gaming hook up and tour to Japan is purely coincidental.

Man U might be able to change their shirts from red to black if they can score a Chinese player.

Tel, so it's a coincidence that Man U is playing two games in JPN the same year they sign him? When did they last do that? You forgot to address the financial point. Take the red shirt off your head and open your red colored eyes. I never said he wasn't good but if you think his nationality wasn't a factor ..........

pure marketing strategy from a club in deep financial trouble, creating more revenue from Japan is why Kagawa was chosen. Yes he did well but only against also ran competition. Here is hoping he can do more with Rooney in the next season.

And this is coming from a Liverpool fan. That shows your lack of rational thought right there:P

I don't think the younger Japanese have this kind of honoring the Class A criminals mentality cloaked nicely as honoring all war dead.

History about such items aren't taught in Japan so you're right. An ignorant populace is a compliant populace, BUT ignorance of the past leads to repeats of past mistakes. Japan as a collective populace needs to konjou up and face it's barbaric past!

Reporters dredging the bottom of the barrel here, why would a random act of violence in America with the perpetrators incapacitated logically pose a risk to a sports event in Nagano? News flash "127 million in Japan not killed by terrorists yesterday" Man this is easy. Keep it up AFP.

Sad to see a person have the vitality sucked out of them in the name of patriotic duty, no one wanted to marry this guy and the princess was personally asked by the Emperor to marry him in duty to her country. Naruhito promised to protect her but in that regard he really was impotent. Enjoy the trip Masako sama.

Make no mistake, I am not defending anyone's "attitude". In fact I consider Australia's attitude equal to in not even more arrogant than Japan's.

Point taken, this issue is more about pride and emotion than science and economics. Lucky for JT those emotions spur this discourse.

You both really are overestimating how much of the "world" gives a hoot about whales.

I agree with this although I detest the Japanese sham down there and your defense of their arrogant attitude. But sadly you are correct on this point.
