Well....Beijing Olympics could be a catalyst like the Seoul Olympics for some political good. And heaps of the pollution in China is caused by USA companies (and others of course). AIring your dirty laundry in other places doesn't make it clean.

I quite enjoy it. The above comments dissing all the food-oriented themes; these posters clearly don't understand the role of food in Japanese (and many other Asian) culture. Although I must admit, that I could do without Becky's orgasmic squeal of 'oishi' all the time (and several others). But all in all, variety shows every now and then are great fun.

Zen Builder - most Olympics run at a loss, especially once the maintenance of the white elephant facilities ticks over after the Games...I don't think that's the point of hosting the Olympics. Especially not for China where hosting the Olympics was seen as a chance to a) show off the country and its capabilities and b) to address a sense of inferiority among global community.

Haha...if McCain gets in, from these types of comments it looks like I will have another 4 years to ridicule USA government.

When it was first reported here (in Aus) they said the hole was caused by a strong & sudden gust of wind...? But the event hasn't gone 'ballistic' as suggested by timorborder

I hate to tell you...Cosplay is spreading! There is a horrible gaggle of them in Sydney city. Overweight Australian girls in cosplay outfits are not a good sight. And sometimes it is hard to tell whether they are cosplayers, or just goth/emo (since costume level has not reached the quality of those in Harajuku etc)

Hah - I would rather he fake bombs than run around crazily with a knife. And I have sent emails by mistake - the old hit the shift and return button when you meant to hit the shift and speech mark button. But that doesnt explain the content of the email or the radio station's address...

By references to a "spiritual desert” and encouragement for more procreation, the Pope means he is desperately afraid of how quickly Islam population is outgrowing the Christian population. I thought his apology for the priests' abuse was well done. But I CANNOT wait until those pilgrims get off the streets. its even worse now the whole WYD planned events have wrapped up - they are milling everywhere instead of going to organised events which can at least be avoided.

Hmmm, it's OK if Heath Ledger gets an Oscar, but only if he would have won one for the role if still living (which is defo not certain).

Don't own a car, share a studio apartment, use recycled paper cat litter (which is flushable - the next step is to eliminate litter altogether and have kitty use the human loo), don't have a bath - shower instead, separate recycling from rubbish, changed the light bulbs, reusable shopping bags. Undecided about - if you eat meat & dairy, you are also responsible for the methane gas emissions in Au/NZ to a degree...lecture yourself as well.

OK Thanks for the epic response - I would agree, if an actor researches a role properly and does a better job than anyone else possibly could then yes, they are the right person for the part. Not if they are going to mispronounce words (ruins the fantasy entirely) or make cultural gaffes afterwards though (puts the natives offside). Can't bleat down most of your comments so guess they are warranted - apart from this one '

Sad - hope they can clear little Madeleine's family earlier than this if they are innocent. Can't be anything worse than knowing you are innocent but that Police may be wasting time & resources investigation you while missing the real criminal.

I can't think of much bad to say about Daylight savings - means I can play sport later in the weekends, more BBQs, less cold washing when you get home a bit late to bring it in. When I was younger (think: 18 and just able to go to the pubs) I didn't like the first day of daylight savings, because all the pubs in my city closed at 3am and so 2 o clock came around and ...you lost an hour of fun! But the opposite with an extra hours sleep to move them back was always great. The only problem I can think of is when the weather packs up and winter comes a bit early while DST is still on - you end up waking in the dark which isnt so good.
