Japan doesn't need more babies, it is over populated and all the people I've talked to think exactly that. Of course the declining population is going to leave a big burdon on the young ones, as they have to pay for the elderly's health care, so the government should focus on supporting that. If they want to maintain current population levels, immigration will have to go through the roof, and we all know that that won't be happening in the near future.

Northlondon, when and who said that? Sounds typical Jpn media anyway and if so, I think that goes against TIMORBORDER'S claim of soccer leading Japan to true internationalisation, infact I think it's done the opposite. Not even the Poms or Italian soccer teams are as stuck up as the Japanese, although they would at least have the right to be. Still, it's only sport, but these guys need a good whoopin, just like the one they recieved in the World Cup...best sports match I've ever seen and I'm not a huge soccer fan.

This Japanese soccer team is full of egos that obscure reality. If they lose or draw they will use injuries as an excuse, yet when Aus played in Japan earlier this year and drew 0-0, Aus had 5 of their best players out, which of course wasn't mentioned in the J media. The media called for the team to make "Aussie beef" out of the Aussies, but tonight we're going to be making sashimi out of the Japanese.

Confining this to the "recent stabbings" greatly undermines the larger problem of similar crimes that have occured for decades. The problems and causes are: Poor family relationships caused primarily from over work, "idol" culture and the obession with the sexualisation of girls, especially young ones and exploiting them on tv,and thirdly the unwillingness of people to help those with problems or recognise individuality, excluding them from the rest of society.

Good on Rudd for having the guts to say something like this. I heard he received good suppport from previous defence secretaries in the US but absolutely nothing from the White House. Strange. Why would the US think it's ok for them to have nukes, but not others? Should Rudd's ideas succeed, he'll do alot for the Asia-Pasific region.

If the U.S. had any respect for Japanese defence progression, they would let Japan become a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
