"unauthorized day off" = hadn't requested time off in advance but failed to show up for work.

Techall, 65 is a fine optional retirement age.

Good on you, Tanuki, for adopting your dog and congratulation on the addition to your family. I hope he will fully recover from the trauma in time.

And if you really care, Yuri, Paul, TokyoKawasaki, etc., you'll be donating to or volunteering to carry out rescues on behalf of JEARS.

Who are these Johnny-come latelys? Anyone interested in animal rescue in Japan should look into JEARS.

I have one Smorkian. Haven't been able to get any charge for weeks. (rainy season is a bit of a bitch.)

This little pot might be a nice addition for night time / cloudy days. I can get a bit a charge while prepping my cup noodle. Great functionality. I want one!

“designed Obamacare after Romneycare and basically made it Obamneycare.”

Just for that, Gov. Pawlenty is on my no-go list. The last thing the world needs is a guy who fails so badly at being funny.

Just to be clear, Cricky the only extra "information" is coming from my imagination. For all I know the deceased was a saint.

Cricky, I'm thinking: a) they all feel sorry for the guy who did it. As it, the dead guy had been bullying him for months and he finally defended himself and it just happened to end in a freak accidental death. (I've recently read "Out" by Kirino Natsuo). b) and yes, with a group of co-conspirators so large, things are bound to go wrong sooner rather than later.

I seem to be seeing most popular items when I click, NATIONAL, rather than newest items...

But other than that, it looks very sharp! I like the thumbs up/down thing.

What they refuse to do is waste time and resources generating a balance sheet every other day because some yahoo somewhere doesn't think they're spending donations fast enough.

(Repeating that, just in case some people find your whole message too long to read, Fadamor.)

Wow. That many people willing to help out with body disposal? That's some sort of teamwork. If they are anything other than yakuza, I imagine it's quite a story.

The empty houses are also in the wrong places. People want to stay with their community. Near their souces of livelihood. Near their extended families and their kids friends. Some are busy during the day clearing their old workplaces, salvaging things from their former homes, delivering goods, looking after each other. If they move to some random empty house in a different part of the country, how are they supposed to manage?

    "Be PROUD of your country."
If your country is something to be proud of.

And if it's not, endeavor to change it.

But if your life depends on standing around singing the praises of whatever leader / dictator etc. runs the show, we'll all understand. And be thankful that it isn't us.

Pledging to a flag on a daily basis creeps me out.

And the newspaper delivery guy, who used the 8-year old victims cell phone to send photos to her mom:

His trial began on April 18, 2005. Kobayashi said:“ I want to be sentenced to death as quickly as possible, and leave a legacy among the public as the next Tsutomu Miyazaki or Mamoru Takuma.

PaulinUSA: Takuma was long-term mentally ill. He would occasionally go off his meds. Or OD on them. He claimed that he tried killing himself many times but just couldn't do it. So he bought a knife and went to the school to kill children, so that the government would kill him. He pled guilty and asked for a quick death sentence. His lawyers tried to claim he was insane. They tried to prevent the death penalty. He insisted he wanted it. And soon. He was granted his wish.

And then we had a string of copycats. Guy taking a hammer to kids in a playground. Guy stabbing kids in a department store play area. Guy driving a truck into a group of kids on the street. All asking for a quick death sentence, like Takuma got.

    1) Crotch shots to strangers via facebook? Puns about pussy photos? Who old is this kid? Seriously bad judgement but that's a matter for the people who elected him to represent them.

    2) Lying about it for a week and then saying he did nothing wrong? This guy has a serious morality defect and should not be in any sort of position of authority.

Why do you assume he is asleep? Just because at the moment in time that they shutter was closed, so were Kan's eyelids? Alladin, do you never blink? When you go, "Whew!" thinking, that was a close call, do your eyes stay open?

(I will grant that there's something corpse-like in the pose).
