But, I, too, was under the impression that Japan is the leader in robotics, so what's with the U.S. sending robots to help at Daiichi?
As many have said on this forum, there are many types of robots but as for being the "leader" in robotics, the U.S. has two robots tooling around on Mars. They were designed to work for 6 weeks but have been going for 7 years now.

I agree with Kaptankichigai, lethrowaway has a wierd take on this. The story doesn't say anything about the kid screaming, it just says he didn't tidy up ....... whatever that means, and they were not together for "years" just a couple weeks. But as for putting up with screaming from a kid, well just every parent has to put up with it at one time or another. It doesn't give them an excuse for "lashing out".

@PepinGalarga: Actually, in Japan you can be arrested even though you are being held on another charge. It's a querk in their system, they serve you with a new warrant and say "Taiho shimasu".
@LoneWolfwfk: Abandoment of a body is a very serious charge in Japan and that is what they usually charge you with first if you are suspected of murdering someone and not reporting to the police where to body is. It seems easy to proove and gives the cops time to get evidence (or confession) on the more serious charges.

@Jasperandy:
Regarding Japanese use of the F-18, there was some disscussion about that years ago but the F-18 has advanced attack capability which was seen as contrary to the Japanese constitution which limits Japans military to defensive only. I can't think of any other nation that the U.S. has ever offered the F-18 to.

Many good comments here, but you have to remember that whenever there is an accident involving a military plane, the entire series is grounded while the cause is investigated. These planes undergo much more stress than a commercial airplane. Sometimes these groundings only last a day. That said, of course air forces have to be modernized from time to time. The next generation of attack and ground suport plane does not have as much focus on speed as on electronics and versatility. For example, in the 2nd gulf war, 1 F-18 shot down 4 MIGs and the planes were never in sight of each other. The whole thing was controlled by an AWACS flying miles away. Dog fights are pretty much a thing of the past.

Make no mistake, the F-15 is still a very formidable war plane. I was in Iraq for 4 1/2 years and the majority of ground support and attack aircraft were F-15s. Also, insofar as Japan has a Self Defense Force, the F-15 is still one of the fastest 2-2 (meaning from 0 to 2000 feet and mach 2) aircraft in the world, which is exactly what a defense aircraft is suppoosed to do.

Think how much sooner they would have found the body if they had actually been looking for HER.

Michelle is not Korean, she is American from Hawaii. Ai has really turned into a star on the LPGA tour after the Japanese media let up on her and let her play golf. She has one of the best short games around. Like Kim Mi-Hyun (under 5 foot) she gives a lot away from the tee but makes up for it with her pin point approach shots.

@sctaber56: Kenguy is right, I was being sarcastic. I didn't make up the joke, I just quoted it. Anyway, If he has no recall of the incident he either was so drunk he had memory blackout, in which case he shoudn't be a cop, he has alzheimer's, in which case he should not be a cop or he is lying through his teeth, in which case he should not be a cop.

I have a couple of sisters-in-law who work for Japanese firms and they tell me that it is an "obligation" to give chocolate to their managers and bosses. Its not in the company handbook but you get on the "S**t list" if you don't and passed over for promotion. That's just wrong!
Posted in: What do you think about the custom in Japan of women giving chocolates to their male co-workers on Valentine’s Day as a form of “obligation,” and then receiving chocolates back from the men on White Day (March 14)?
