It doesn't claim to be a cure-all. It has it's applications....to think this would have prevented damage in a major tsunami is ludicrous.
It is designed to protect against small tsunami or high water levels caused by heavy downpours Neither of which would result in 5 ton fishing boats coming over the wall (by the way 5 tons is very small for a fishing boat.....more like a cabin cruiser).

There's just something wrong with using the words "rugby player" and "facial cream" in the same sentence. Most rugby players I'v seen are not particularly sensative about their looks.

Another useless japanese invention, make to look smart and in the process rob the poor people of japan!!
Definitely not true! Lucky Plaza in Singapore has been flooded twice in the last two years due to heavy rains. The entire lower floor of shops is below street level and both occasions have resulted in extensive loss of merchandise and long cleanup closures. This appears to be exactly what is needed.

Well, it appears to be a mistake by the school as well as an error in judgement by the driver. One bus turned back and the other didn't. How many times before this tragedy have you seen tsunami warnings on television only to have them turn out to be only centimeter high? This is very unfortunate but I think a many of the deaths were caused by apathy towards the warnings.

Timothy McVay had a lot of trial and error test before he finally built the fertilizer-diesel bomb that took out the Murro Federal building in Oklahoma city........Anders Breivik got the same recipe from the internet and build it "right out of the box". There is so much more info readily available on the internet, (and som many terrorists willing to share it) that intensive testing is no longer required. Equating something that happened 20 years ago to today's threat is dangerous.

@Smokian: Do you mean congressmen shouldn't do what they were elected to do? These guys state their postiton on the issues and their constituents decide which stance they approve, then, you think they should go to Washington and forget all of theat and just sit around the camp-fire and sing Kumbaya? It's the long run you should be looking at. The U.S. getting their financial house in order will do more for the world economy than quick fix extentions of the debt limit. I elected a congressmen who promised to reign in spending and that's what I expect him to do.

One of the key items in this legislation is the requirement for an up/down vote on a balanced budget ammendment. A similar vote failed in the Senate by one vote in 1995. I doubt if a vote would get throught this Senate but it would put the voters on notice about who is serious about spending controls.
