It's great for foreign workers but I find the real benefit is emergencies. My son lost his wallet in the states and had no cash, no debit card, no atm card. I was in Singapore with close to a 12 hour time difference. He called me and explained his perdiciment and I told him to get to Western Union and call me back. He called back in about an hour (by which time I had also got myself to Western Union). I sent him $2,000, told him the MTCN over the phone and he got the cash immediately. The whole process, from his first call, took about one and a half hours.

It's abiout time. Note the line about 400,000 locations and 200 countries and Japan is just getting on board now. Sumitomo bank used to have WU service but mostely receiving only and only during normal banking hours. Western Union is still the best way to send money to someone who is cash strapped in a hurry. Just walk into any agent with your MTCN and valid ID and receive the cash.

Forgot should Famous Actors(Angela Jolie, etc) also forego their seats as they might travel with their kids
Fly with someone other than Malaysian.
This is a good PR point for Malaysian targeting people who don't want to be in first class with kids, Other airlines can promote first class that accepts kids. Works for everybody.

The Headline says "Strangling" and the story says "suficating" those are not the same............you strangle by cutting off the windpipe, yiou sufficate by covering the nose and mouth. BIG difference! If you are trying to silence someone and place a pillow over their face, you can* accidentally* sufficate them. It's pretty hard to accidentally throttle someone by choking the neck with your hands.

@GW: I do know that the are a lot of business travellers in economy, usually on a tight company budget or busines/first were all booked.
Why should I have to buy earplugs?? just ban babies from first class is a better option for me. I can tell you are a jealous cattle car denizen and think it's just about seats and food. FYI I rarley eat on planes whether it's first of economy.......so it aint the food. I do like to stretch out when I sleep and I don't like ear plugs.......so I'll fly with Malaysia and you can fly with whomever you like. BTW if you are a mother with a baby or toddler and you are seated in first and the kid starts crying, move to the rear of the plane (the stews will find you a place to sit) and come back when the baby is sleeping.

@SamuraiBlue: You are right, my bad it is Koito ( I was going from memory and I knew it bagan with a "K"). Anyway I was recruited to work for Biong as an inspector on the project and they said it was for the 787 project. I didn't take the job so maybe they cancelled the 787 part.

One of the many reasons for delay was the fact that Kyocera, who manufacture the seats, falsified fire retardent data on the seat material. Google it and you can read the details.

Most flyers buy Business or First Class because they are expected to go to work as soon as they arrive at their destination which is very often 8 to 10 hours diffferent from they departure time zone. That's why companies and private businessmen pay big bucks for the higher class. It's got nothing to do with elitism, it has to do with economics. So, if my company buys me first class to fly to Oslo and I arrive at 7:00 in the morning and go directly to the office, they expect me to arrive rested. If I arrive jet-lagged and dead tired because a baby kept me awake the whole flight, they are not going to be pleased and probably look for another carrier.............like maybe Malaysian!

Maybe they should take a hint from the (dispised) U.S. bases here. The bases all have a posted "heat Index" devised on a combination of heat and humidity. When I was in Iraq, there were times when the heat index was constantly "Black" which meant no more than 15 minutes of activity per hour outdorrs. The U.S. Army is pretty good at keeping their soldiers in good health.

A number of years ago I coached a little league baseball team of mostly ex-pat kids. I was shocked to see the coaches of the Japanese teams forbidding their kids from drinking water during practices, I know this to have been true of high school teams too. Their reasoning ws to build "ganman" spirit in the players. Nothing mentioned of this in the article but I wouldn't be surprised.

Actually many products have both measurements on the packages, many road signs show both kilometers and miles, Speedometers have two scales. But while we are at it, why do the british stil use "stones" for peoples weight? Why do Japanese carpenters still use "shaku" length measurement? Why do seafareres still use nautical miles for distance and fathoms for depth?

Tokyo was Bidding on 2016 & have several other times. well its gonna cost money anywhere so why Not Japan
There are some cities where it will cost next to nothing to hold olympic games. Los Angeles is one of them. Enough sporting venues already in existance and dthey can use the dorms at UCLA and USC as an Olympic village as they did for the '84 games. Only the swim stadium and velodrome were newly built and they were paid for by corporate sponsorship.

Are these people out of their minds?? How about getting the quake hit areas cleaned up and back to normal life BEFORE you start including them in international sports venues.

@goddog: It says that they did retrieve the robot and when a helicopter developes engine trouble, you put it down as soon as you can on a flat area so as not to damage the rotors. It laso say " it was not immediately known when or how the drone may be retrieved", it does not say it is irretrievable.
