your friend is not a national politician of Japan and therefore not a representative of the state and of the collective people of that state, who by virtue of paying his salary, have a right to command certain behaviour, which is valid for the private citizen, is not acceptable by him/her, as long as they hold that public position.

"Not acceptable" for, say mr Hashimoto, huh? Why, I wonder? Because someone from the USA, China or South Korea dislikes that kind of behaviour? Big deal. He is a legally elected mayor of japanese city and has all rights to express his opinion concerning to certain aspects of japanese history. Without "wise advisors" from other parts of Asia or North America.

No, we're angered that people like Hashimoto, Ishihara and others are trying to rewrite history and take Japan on a backwards path to the road of imperialistic nationalism, which was what led to the Pacific War in the first place. These are dangerous, evil men who care nothing about the rights of other people.

The fact that they express their opinions which are different than your expectations, does not mean that they are "dangerous people" or " they are trying to rewrite history".

... NO America NEVER did anything like Japan did, NOT even close...

Chinese Sai Lor, you should read a history book. Even some vary simple, for school students. An article about nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, for instance....

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited Yasukuni shrine, so what? Many Japanese people do it every year, including my closest friend. Because they are true patriots and pay a plain respect to fallen warriors of their country. As for Big Complaining Mouths from the USA and other parts of ignorant world, just ignore them. They like to push their ugly mugs into domestic affairs of Japan.

I agree with Hashimoto. Japan did similar things but Hashimoto was absoloutely right to point out that America did these things to the women of Okinawa! I can't believe it. Looking at all the comments on here at the outraged Americans. "Let's all criticise Japan! We are America! The Heroes! We didn't commit any war crimes! We always respected and never discomforted the women and people of Okinawa!" "Japan did it so we're allowed too as well!"

The acts of America and Americans do make my blood boil. Take some criticism! The truth does hurt, but you must live with it.

They are whining at mr Hashimoto for a simple reason. They angered that Japan is becoming free from the US- imposed political influence . This is a good sign. I believe someday Japan will wake up and clean a japanese territory off american invaders, kicking them back to their side of Pacific.

Japan NEEDS U.S. cars. Cars here are ugly. Not all of them but the typical cube shaped cars are not only ugly but no muscle as well. and too small.

    Hahaha! Are you crazy?

You conveniently lay aside the fact that Japanese would be a dead language by now, since they would all be speaking Russian. Although, Japans hive mentality would have fit right in with communism, it most likely wouldn't have led to the economic resurgence that was possible under American occupation. Let's also not forget, Japan/Nihon would no longer be found on world maps. =) You're welcome!

History, as a science, operates only with solid facts. History does not know things like "coulda-woulda-shoulda". The alternative history where "Japanese people speak Russian and Japan is wiped out of World Map" belongs to science fiction.

The Japanese who happily trespass on each others property, get blind drunk and pass out on station platforms, etc., were BORN HERE. This is - whether you agree with their actions or not - THEIR HOME.

The US servicemen who who commit various anti-social acts are NOT AT HOME - they are GUESTS, paid for by the JAPANESE GOVERNMENT.

Exactly! By the way, if you remove a root of evil, the consequences will disappear. Send American occupants back to USA. Respect yourself.

Ancient history? Don't think so. There are neighbours of mine in Papua New Guinea still waiting for their pay for years of forced labour for the Japanese military. And for payment for all the food that was stolen.

Just one word for you and others who insist on "apologies", "payments" etc from Japanese side : forget. Do not behave yourself like lousy beggars. World War II took place many years ago. The current generation of Japanese people has nothing to do with the actions of their grandfathers. Plain and simple.

So, they praised a huge army of law enforcers for capturing a single wounded person?!

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s capture touched off raucous celebrations in and around Boston, with chants of “USA! USA!” .

What a bunch of silly rednecks.......

Agree 100%, but people don't want to hear that it was unnecessary, so they deflect and deny. I don't think the US government would EVER apologize for the bombings or even attempt to suggest it was not needed -- it would be political suicide.

My 2 roubles. When a soldier fights an enemy soldier, he is a Warrior. When a soldier begins to fight civilians, he quickly becomes an animal. Aggressive animals must be exterminated. Americans demonstrated their true nature by firebombings of Japanese civilians in cities and towns of Japan and by bombing of civil population of Hiroshima and Nagasaki by combat nuclear devices. They wished " to demonstrate a US military might to Soviets". Very good, we appreciated it. We also appreciated American plans of massive nuclear bombings of main Soviet cities and towns, called "Operation Dropshot" and "Operation Totality". Covering asses by pretty slogans about " fighting Communism", Americans were ready to bomb innocent people again and again. I don't know for Japanese people, but from a viewpoint of a huge amount of my countrymen, nuclear bombings of civilians are pretty unforgivable by plain definition.

the US has the role of global policeman

This is a cheap tale developed specially for semi-educated US folks. No one needs a self-proclaimed world policeman".

because it has an agenda to spread democracy.

Bombing countries of Middle East and turning them into lawless hellholes is not "spreading democracy" but acts of aggression and state terrorism. Nowadays people of Iraq and Afganistan are dying everyday of permanent activity of various armed groups of rebells and plain starvation. The USA spreads violence, arrogance and stupidity around the Globe, nothing more.

They've been threatening everyone since last week. Although I wouldn't really want it to happen, these empty threats are annoying me. All bark and no bite. Even the people in South Korea aren't scared.

This is just a show, targeted to people of South Korea and Japan. The dirty show, mainly inspired by zionist-controlled US media.

Hint : the single Russian anti-aircraft battery, deployed nearby borderline of North Korea can annihilate all missiles of DPRK. Let alone Japan equipped by up-to-date weaponry.

The USA acts like a boy who threw a stone into a head of sleeping hound, chained inside a backyard. While the hound barking, the boy announces himself to people of the street as "their protector".

As I've written before, the US should engage China and Russia in turn-about-is-fair-play. Accordingly, the US should give to Japan, SK, Taiwan, Israel, and the Philippines nuclear-armed missiles and the most sophisticated anti-missile defense systems

A childish dream without any connection to rude reality. Uncle Sam likes to be a World Cop and considers all other nations as loyal puppets.. So, the USA will never give a nuclear weaponry or up-to-date high-speed rockets to Taiwan, Japan or Philippines. As for Russia or China , they have nothing against small independent nations with well-developed weaponry for self-defence. That's why Russia and China support Syria, Iran or Venezuela. The aggressive foreign policy of USA caused the current crisis with North Korea, constantly "pulling a chain of sleeping hound". Instead of congratulations with the first ever successful launch of North Korean satellite, the UN after Uncle Sam's leadership imposed much more tough sanctions to North Korea. You know it would be a clearly visible act of insulting for ANY nation of the World. Now people of Russia and China are looking calmly on another one international show with "North Korean threat" and attempts of US leadership to regain an image of Big Brother and Main Protector of Japan and South Korea.

Nine years ago Japanese and Korean customers already had a possibility to watch TV channels from MBSat communication satellite on portable handsets. Everyone could search a web for picture of Teletech IBM100 handset, for instance. After that any statement like "Appple brought an idea of smartphones to Japanese people" looks out merely as apotheosis of naivety..

Well, no, no, not really: you could just check Wiki to find out that camera-phone tech actually came from the US first.

Some people wish to show the USA as Motherland of All inventions ever :-))))

It a well-documented fact that Shosaku Kawashima of Canon in Japan designed cell phone combined with a digital camera, in May 1997, before appearing of Philippe Kahn's device.

iPhone was the first popular smartphone; not because of features or specs (most people kept a highly featured gala-kei for taking pictures or sending mail), but because it was good for web browsing, and it was seen as a 'cool' phone. Apple made a smartphone that was useable by dumb people; suddenly the cool crowd, celebs etc were getting them and this popularity brought smartphones 'to the masses'

Really, "Apple made a smartphone that was useable by dumb people" only in the USA. That's right. As for Japan, please, read posts of Japanese people here more attentively. They say that they had their national and much more advanced hand-sets long before the appearing of iphone.
