Thank you conservative movement, for 8 senseless years.. after which we actually have to denounce waterboarding, something that prior to Jan 20, 2001 was a given.

Sounds like good advice for any country, not just China and Japan.
Posted in: In China-Japan ties, cooperation and friction co-exist, and in handling disputes between the two countries, foreign policy should not be shaped by extreme nationalism.

Also, Japanese musicians should play telecasters, as telecaster players are known to be the most awesome players in the universe (Danny Gatton, Roy Buchanan, Redd Volkkart.. heck, even Hotei picks up a tele and becomes even cooler when he does).

The numbers at the time I viewed this page -- 78% Pro, 22% Anti -- are only a little out of skew with the polls (Gallup, AP/GfK, Research2000, CBS/NYT, Newsweek) being reported in the U.S. Only President Obama is generally enjoying a high approval rating, with fewer than 30% really, really opposed. Some of those folks are dead-enders, and their motivations are suspect. It's a good honeymoon and clearly Americans are willing to give him some time. They're not expecting instant gratification, for a change.
President Obama won his first election, post-inauguration. The special congressional election in upstate New York was a referendum on his support for the 'stim', and it was a traditionally republican district that went for Bush in 2000 and 2004: Last week, the Republican incumbent conceded and a pro-Obama Democrat is the new representative.
Politicians risk opposing the President at their own peril: Ultimately, some appear dumb. Texas Governor Rick Perry decided to make headlines by opposing the 'stim' and making provocative statements about seceding, casting himself as the alternative to President Obama. This week, he's begging the feds for money to deal with this swine flu scare. That sort of thing winds up helping President Obama politically.

He must have said more than that. "I've been working hard for 15 years.." isn't much of a call to arms.
Posted in: I've been working hard for 15 years since leaving the Liberal Democratic Party. We must now make every effort to take the reins of government.

Speak English! It's not just Asian artists, any foreign language pop can't break in. There's a separate market for Spanish-language stuff, but it rarely if ever breaks through to the mainstream. I think the last foreign-language song to be a hit in the U.S. was "99 Luftballoons".
Now, BoA from South Korea seems to have made a little inroad with her dance hit.
And The Pillows have found a small cult audience among anime nerds (Imagine my surprise in Kyoto a few years ago, I went to see them thinking they were these huge rock stars.. and they were playing in a tiny club).
The only people in America who know Tomoyasu Hotei or Akira Takasaki are other guitar players.
Miwa from "Dreams Come True" speaks English pretty fluently, I'm surprised they never tried to release singles over here. They've recorded here, but haven't really tried to crack the market.

Yelnats, of course that is a real possibility.
Japan needs to seriously encourage adoption and remove some of the scorn directed at these panicked and unprepared young women.. or older women for that matter. If this is a murder, the mother did a monstrous thing, but most-likely she wasn't born a monster.

The WORLD, not just the "West" should be PRO-active, not wait react to a situation.
First off, Pakistan already is an Islamic state. The official name is "The Islamic Republic of Pakistan". We'll assume that JT is referring to the taliban insurgents in the Swat Valley. They've already been given authority to run their turf with sharia law, and instead of being placated, the taliban is emboldened. These insurgents are striking dangerously close to Pakistan's capital.
I hope we ALREADY have mechanisms in place to get Pakistan's Nukes OUT of there if it looks like the taliban or other radical nutcases are in a position to take over. Dealing with it after the fact would be disastrous. I hope we have high level contacts within Pakistan's military, whose lower ranks are increasingly sympathetic to the taliban.
We Need:
1) Preemptive Diplomacy, a deal with the current government to go in and get the weapons.
2) Preemptive Confiscation. Either of the afore-mentioned situations would be preferable in light of the need to verify the location of every single one of the warheads or other devices.
3) If these prove impossible, any and all means necessary to keep nukes out of the hands of the radicals. And yes, this time I DO mean "Napalm and Rockets". Possibly more.
The west is not alone in this. Pakistan has as many as 250 warheads, and missiles with a 4500km range. India, Israel, East Asia, Diego Garcia.. all in imminent danger.
And then there's the possibility of smuggling a device out to anywhere in the world. China's western frontier has its own problems with radical Islam. Australia, Japan and the Philippines would have reason to fear. Of course, the U.S. and U.K. would be the prime targets for taliban revenge for Iraq and Afghanistan.

neverknow2,
LOL, I had the same experience with my girlfriend.. she refused to eat at any of the dozens of food stalls at some street festival because she said the yakuzas running them looked 'scary'. They looked like the people at every other food stall in Japan, fried noodles. Now if one of them had looked like Kobayashi Akira or Sugawara Bunta, THAT would have been awesome.
Posted in: People think of the yakuza as wielding swords and having tattoos and missing fingers. What you should be thinking of the modern-day yakuza is Goldman Sachs with guns.
