Why do so many JT readers figure Yakuza conspiracies into everything? Is there a particular reason that the simplest explanation isn't the best one?

There's that famous phrase from British PM Benjamin Disraeli, popularized by Mark Twain: "Lies, damned lies, and statistics". It's certainly in the best interests of those in charge to present the statistics that show them to be doing their best. My country's unemployment numbers are similarly manipulated, I think beginning in the Nixon administration (when a lot of bad things started).
The simplest definition should be the one used: "unemployed" = "want a job" plus "but don't have one".

Since free market capitalism is now a globally proven failure, why the heck SHOULD China "complete" its "transition"? Atlas didn't shrug, he tripped and fell, and broke his nose.

So, it's this stuff keeping him from making "Zatoichi 2"? Oi, Beato! The world is waiting for you!
Interesting, especially after reading Japan's Longest Day which suggests the emperor had a role in extending the war after the Hiroshima bombing. He wouldn't side with the members of the inner circle who wanted to surrender unless there was an agreement to preserve the imperial line.

A gun in Los Angeles, a knife in Akihabara.. but the weapons are not what caused the crimes. Anger, frustration, disconnection.. and I'm scared that the tanking world economy is going to spark more outbursts.

Let me get this straight: Japanese ships can't handle those mean ol' greenpeace anti-whaler, but the JMSDF is going to handle Khat-crazed hardened pirates off the lawless coast of Africa? Yeah, this is going to go well.

Babies get into anything and everything. That's why we have baby gates, and plastic things to plug the electric sockets on the walls and put the breakable items up on high shelves. I can't imagine it was easy to lose track of a kid in a tiny Japanese apartment, but stranger things have happened.
(Many years ago) I worked at a store selling office supplies; we pulled mischievous kids out of cabinets a couple of times, and once from a SAFE on the display floor. Mom is busy shopping and creative little minds will find a way to get attention. When you're a baby, the dining room table becomes a play fort. There could be a perfectly innocent and tragic explanation for this.

The McD's in Japan are SOOO much better than the ones in the U.S. Despite promises to resist and refuse to eat American junk food in Sushiland, I usually break down once per visit and grab a burger. Shame on glutenous American food! I hate myself for it.
Dang, now I have to have a QP w/C before the end of the week. Curse you, McDonald's publicity machine!

Never heard of her before seeing the story on NHK BS News ("San-ji BS Newssource desu!"). That said: Bobbafett, you're taking this rather personally, aren't you? "Methinks the (bobba) doth protest too much". Seems like kind of a waste of energy to dump on this woman's grave like that. She certainly didn't have that porny appearance, or crack-sunken cheeks. And she managed to turn a dead-end, life-and-spirit-sucking career in porn into a book deal and spin-offs, so she at least deserves a little congratulations for managing to rise above that morass.
So, some are accusing her of committing suicide because she couldn't write act three? I got news for you.. there are going to be a few more suicides in the collapsing economy. Hating and dumping on people isn't going to improve things one bit.
