Snow in Tokyo, too!
SIGH... Yes, global warming... it means more moisture in the atmosphere. More moisture in the atmosphere means snow, when it hits a cold front. Or rain in Brazil, or in Queensland, Oz. Global warming does NOT mean "instant global warming".. it's not going to look like the movie "Soylent Green" overnight.

The main, inescapable difference: The Japanese networks report the news in Japanese. The US networks mostly report the news in English.

Ugh. Please don't trust today's awful Hollywood directors.
Hey, just for fun, instead of having Raymond Burr Americanize it by playing a reporter named "Steve Martin", maybe Steve Martin could play a character named "Raymond Burr"?

It's not just Japan that's prospered with the shield of the U.S., I read recently where other nations (even Vietnam) was also concerned about the reduction of forces in Okinawa, as the presence of Americans keeps China's ambitions in check.
And with Japan's aging population and young males more apt to sprain their thumbs on video games than to do some dang push-ups and join the Self Defense Force.. well, it just makes sense for Japan to keep that alliance strong.
Posted in: I’m frequently concerned when I hear the word burden used as a description. I suggest that it is an obligation under the alliance to do the hosting and basing of U.S. forces. And for that, the government of Japan gets the services of one of the best and biggest militaries in the world.

It was shocking, but it wasn't gruesome. We could have done without the cpr close-ups and the blood coming out of the poor young man's mouth, but there was a brewing controversy over whether the track was built to be too fast. Personally, I don't want corporate news employees deciding what's appropriate for me: Show the video, but give ample warning to those who would be upset that shocking footage is about to air.
stirfry and TokyoXtreme... I believe you have old and new media confused. If the old media censors or selectively edits something for whatever reason, it's the new media (youtube, liveleak, any number of blogs) that rushes in to fill the gap and show the uncensored footage.

The line ought to be drawn with the JSA! Should a bunch of 70 and 80 year old fossils with their heads lodged in the Edo era have any sway over modern society? If you want to know what the Sumo-going public really thinks of the line and Asashoryu's place near it.. count the empty seats at the March honbasho in Osaka!
Posted in: Like any sport, sumo needs colorful characters to keep fans interested and to bring in new fans, but following Asashoryu's downfall, where should the line be drawn on what is and isn't acceptable behavior for sumo wrestlers?
