Ironman was first, and he's much shorter than Ultraman LOL. Ironman is a great film by the way. Look forward to seeing Tropic Thunder. Speaking of Ultraman, did JT even mention the new Ultraman movie coming out, with, I believe, 8 of the brothers appearing. Sounds like fun.

I remember watching her and Suzuki Ranran on Ponkikis many years ago. Both were really cute then. Both have grown up well, one in singing the other in acting.
I prefer listening to her than to Kinki Kids, who have also broke a record.
I often wonder how much Japanese musicians are paid compared to their foreign counterparts. I it's like Yoshimoto Kogyo and their comedians, it's probably not a lot.

Which Gaidai?
Didn't his grandmother die while Jero was still in Japan, and he wasn't able to return for her funeral? I seem to remember hearing that on TV.
Wish him the best.

timeon, she was just joking. If you haven't already, you should watch her Academy Award winning performance in "Monster". Now that's acting. Hard to believe it's the same woman.
Hancock was a fun movie. Some unexpected bits kept it pretty interesting.

Congratulations to Japan on their victory. It was well-deserved. Both teams played well, and represented their countries with pride. Really enjoyed watching. Ueno deserved a gold medal for her performance whether Japan won or not.
I am glad that the Olympics are winding down. It's funny, even though Japan is so close to China, we are still forced to watch a lot of the live events at midnight. Must really screw up the athletes' sleeping schedules.

At least NTV's 24-hour TV is for charity, like the Jerry Lewis Telethon in the States. As far as I know, Fuji's 27-hour has no real point, except to show how cool they are (JIMAN).
If reuniting can help raise money for charity, and more awareness about handicapped people (Goodness nows Japan needs more awareness!), I say more power to Speed.

So again Japan relies on the opposing team to score for them. Seriously, they need someone who can find the back of the net!

As far as I can see, nobody needs to resign at all. These affairs are private matters, not public. If what they are doing doesn't affect their performance at work, then so what. The morality of these announcers has little to do with the lowering morality in Japan, when so many other public figures, television programs and magazines/manga seem to blatantly promote immorality.
I also agree with NagoyaGaijin. Hey, it takes two to tango, so why are the women the only ones being punished and not the men. Oh, I forgot, it's a cultural thing.
IchyaParadise, Mona's probably still on LondonBoots because they taped those episodes. She should be back on a lot of shows soon though.

They're the best. The antics, the music, and the lyrics. A true visionary rock band. i saw them in Seattle, and I wish they were coming to Hiroshima. Could maybe afford a ticket to see them, but can't afford to take the shinkansen and buy a ticket to see them. Then again, maybe the show in Tokyo will be broadcast on wowow....

Some pretty insensitive comments from some of the readers here. Glad to see they're in the minority.
I say we all line up and each get one kick at the guy. We can use his argument that we are scared by him.

Actually there are I think three input methods for japanese. One with the keyboard, typing in romaji to get the kana/kanji, another with the phone-keypad style UdaMan mentioned, and the third being a a ka sa ta na keypad, where pressing on the kana will bring up that kanas entire aiueo set. One-handed input is simple.

The reason she's holding an iPhone may be because she is the daughter in the Softbank ads for the White Family. You know, the ones with the white dog as the father. I'm waiting for an ad with the dad showing how easy it is to use the iPhone with his paws.
Aya is advertising a lot of products, but at least she's appealing to look at. ;-)

Softbank probably isn't promoting the iPhone because they don't have to. The iPhone sells itself. It may also be because customers may not be able to get their hands on an iPhone on the promised date, and it'll be first come first served. Softbank and Apple will also receive free press from all of the wide shows and news programs doing stories on its release.
Softbank has to make an iPhone commercial with the dog though...

I don't think he is saying "I" want a raise. He is saying "we" want a raise. He doesn't need the extra money, but lower wrestlers, and perhaps sumo stables, do. I'm sure the Japanese press is making him out to be money hungry, recently they always put him in a bad light. I see it differently. He is the ranking Yokozuna, so he is trying to use his position to help the other guys.

Hopefully it will die a horrible death, since I think it is only a summer replacement show. With a possible actor strike coming up though, ya never know....
I also agree that this type of show doesn't seem to exist in Japan anymore. There are shows where comedians or TARENTO do zany stunts, but not everyday people.
I used to enjoy watching Beat Takeshi's Genki Ga Deru Terebi. They had a lot of "Candid Camera"-like stunts. There was one stunt where they had about a hundred guys dressed like sumo wrestlers, and they set up a camera at one end of a small quiet street. As an unsuspecting person walked up the street, the sumo guys would run around the corner directly at them, toward the camera. The looks on the faces of the people running to get out of the way are priceless. This kind of "Candid Camera" humor is hilarious, as long as you're not the person being fooled.

They are trying to keep fares down by only charging passengers with bags. It was a free, often abused, service that will now cost only people with checked bags. I just hope people will not abuse the carry-on baggage, or they'll start charging for that too.
I do wish that this applied to the first-class and business-class passengers. It's not like their bags take up less space or weight on the flight.
If I'm a businessman traveling with only a briefcase, I don't want to have to pay a higher fare in oder to subsidize the fare of a passenger with baggage. $15 a bag is not that much.
Sending your bags to your destination might be possible, as many people do here in Japan. I don't know if it's cheaper, but it would have the added benefit of getting you out of the airport faster.

I'm sure the parfait is Parafflicious, but I kinda like going to Tully's for their coffee. I wish shops in Japan didn't have to try to be trendy in order to survive here. Though I was really bummed when TacoTime closed here in Hiroshima a year after I got here. Used to be A&W's in Japan too, but now only in Okinawa. (Actually found one somewhere else, but could only order burgers because they didn't sell root beer. Wha?!?!) Shakey's is also disappearing. Anything disappearing in your neighborhood?
BTW, who else thinks Tully's coffee tastes a lot better than Starbucks?
