I agree with WilliB, their afros turning into turbins is not racist. It's cute. The kid's cute. I do think that this IS news in the entertainment section. It's the first time Papaya's daughter has made a commercial. For those of you commenting on if this is newsworthy or not, if it's not news you are interested in, then why read it, or for that matter, why comment on it?

airrunwesker I believe it is "Phase II" not "Stage 2", and if anyone hasn't checked out their work, they do a pretty good job. There is also a Star Trek movie made by some former cast members of STNG and ST TOS. It's called "Of Gods And Men", and it's pretty good too. Looking forward to seeing Star Trek on the big screen, though I always find the Japanese subtitles distracting. Keep checking to see if there are any translating mistakes....

On a personal note, I really like the commercial. I have no opinions on women going braless or not, I just think the commercial is really well done. I generally like uniqlo commercials, but I really liked this one. Am I rambling....

Regarding the schools being closed, the reports on the news were just what I thought would happen. All of those kids that are out of school, are walking around town, going to game centers and karaoke, some even in their school uniforms. One kid was asked why he wasn't staying at home, and he replied, naturally, there was nothing to do at home. So basically the intent of keeping kids from being in contact with other kids, which I think the school closure meant to do, may have a negative effect on the situation. We have to remember, this is Japan, not Mexico, so I think it would be hard to use the tough methods they used in Mexico here or in the US. Imagine trying to cancel sports events and close restaurants in Japan or the US like they did down south. Riots.

More power to him. I think governments should provide funding for more of these kinds of projects. I'm surprised there aren't more sea farms off the coast of Japan. There's definitely a market!

Much to my surprise, I found his interview refreshing. He actually criticized Japanese TV. Now I know why he doesn't wear socks. He is probably a very intelligent guy, but the character his talent agency forces him to depict probably hurts more than helps.

Go further back and watch Opie on the Andy Griffith Show. I am currently listening to the audiobook "Angels and Demons" and it is pretty good. It is my first audiobook, and it sure beats trying to read while standing up in a crowded bus! Looking forward to seeing the movie.

She actually has a pretty good voice. Much better than the average idol, that's for sure. She can also speak English well, having lived in LA.

This guy is amazing. Not only a TV personality/singer/entertainer, but also an importer, entrepreneur, publisher, and a generally interesting guy.

Seems logical to me, and a good reason to go on a diet. Obese people just have to be prepared to pay for two seats if they are planning on flying. I am afraid that in the future, as someone mentioned, the weight of the person may be factored in too. Perhaps a higher fuel surcharge for heavier people. That would affect a lot more people, including people who are not obese.

I have a feeling that it's going to go to Chicago. Beijing recently hosted the Olympics, so I really think it's too early for another Asian nation to get the Olympics. I don't think it will go to Rio, not sure why, but it just doesn't seem likely to me. The main reason I don't want to see the Olympics in Tokyo, is because my damn tax money will probably be used in some way to pay for the damn thing. They'll probably buy massage chairs with built-in karaoke machines for the athlete's village, or some other "essential" item...

Why not put a squad of marines on each US ship entering the area to fight off attacks if necessary. 5 with the proper equipment should be sufficient. They can be taken off before the ships enter ports. It would be faster and easier than moving in the Bainbridge or some other ship every time there is an incident. If it's something big, then the military ships can be called into play. Gotta do something about them pirates...

hoserfella, he isn't blaming the agency, because he is the president of his son's agency. Basically he's saying his son is fired. I guess this is news, but I sure get tired of hearing about it. The only reason it is big news, is because the guy is marginally famous, and his father is very famous. Who really cares, except those directly involved? wonder if this new anti-marijuana craze will affect the MJ t-shirts sometimes worn by Johnny's Entertainment or other MJ-related clothes, buckles and pins worn by entertainers throughout Japan....

Sad news. May they rest in peace. At least it isn't winter. Feel bad also for one of my students. Just left today for a honeymoon in Italy, scheduled to arrive in Rome yesterday I think. Leaving the land of earthquakes, and experiencing one half way around the world. Jeez.

Chavez is a little scary, and yes I would venture to agree that he is becoming a dictator. With him in Venezuela, and Raul Castro in Cuba bringing more military types into the government, latin america is going to get very interesting in the near future.

Injury to his pride, I think. Maybe the photographer deserved to be punched. More details than "trouble erupted" would be good.
