It's pronounced hi-de. I liked his solo work, he wasn't a cookie-cutter musician like so many others. The band he played with towards the end of his life had an interesting name. I'm sure he fully understood the meaning. Does anyone know where all the money made off of his name goes? I'm sure it's in the millions of dollars.

Junji Takada's a riot. Loved watching him on Genki ga deru terebi. Aki is cute, but there's something about her nose, it seems too big, or wide... Not sure why, just don't like it. I think this show is going to be a failure anyway. They should make Zen-like questions. You know, "If a tree fell in the forest, and no one was around, would it make a sound?", those kind of questions. Come to think of it, I wouldn't watch that either.

What peeves me is I pay my income tax and I am not eligible because I am not a resident of Japan! In general I think this stimulus plan is just a vote-buying plan from the LDP, but even if it passes, I don't think people will be motivated to vote for the LDP.

I'm upset! Mukku always gets the short end of the stick. They should make a red one too, then I'd buy one of each (not). It's cute, and I'm sure kids will love it.

It will be interesting when "the Kid" comes back to Seattle this year. It was just reported in the Seattle Times that Griffey is coming home. Hopefully he can put up some good numbers, now that his injuries have healed. There's no doubt that he will bring in fans, even during this rebuilding year. He may be able to provide some leadership!

Isn't it refreshing that she is NOT pregnant? The dekichatta weddings are getting a bit old, and usually end up in divorce. Hopefully they will have a long and happy life together.

I think focusing on the positive is better than focusing on the negative. The question should be what is right with the way English is taught in Japan. Unfortunately there would probably be much fewer answers...
The basic answer to the question posted is that English in Japan is almost taught like it's a dead language, much like Latin is taught. It has been getting better in recent years though, but having teachers who can actually speak English fluently would be a big step in the right direction. Too many know English inside and out, but can only carry out the simplest of conversations.

Braniac, the real Beyonce and her sister met Ms. Watanabe on Waratte ii to omou last year. Beyonce thought she was funny as heck. She even danced a little with her.
I remember going back to the States and seeing the High School Musical fever, and wondering what happened. Can't believe it's so popular, but then again I can't believe the popularity of Hannah Montana either.

She will go into stage, movie or TV stardom. Most of them do. This just means she is retiring from performing with the Takarazuka group. I don't follow Takarazuka members, so I have no idea who she is anyway.

hoserfella, I am not a conspiracy theorist, I just want to know what they had because I'm interested in it. The reason I wrote "sick cops" is because the first poster wrote it, and I didn't get what the hell the poster meant. Hence the question mark. I think Miura was guilty of his wife's murder, and probably also his ex-girlfriend's murder, I just was curious about the evidence. Get on with your boring life. If you're not interested, then don't comment.

Jeez, I can't imagine not hurting your elbow trying to one-arm the massive Kotomitsuki. Hopefully Asashoryu will be fit enough to win the tournament and silence his critics. I don't think he could beat Hakuho with only one arm. GANBARE!

sick cops?
Anyway, so it seems they may have been going to bring him up on charges in his old girlfriend's case. Still not enough info for me. I would just like to know exactly what new evidence they found.

Another hit-or-miss situation is Hollywood remaking excellent foreign films. I remember laughing like heck at the French comedy "The Tall Blond Man With One Red Shoe" and then being severely disappointed with the Tom Hanks' remake. "Shall We Dance" was pretty good, as are some of the remakes of J-Horror, but generally speaking I would rather see the original foreign film. Hollywood should just hire famous actors to dub the films, if they don't feel people will watch subtitled films. It sure would cost a lot less than remaking the entire film. (I prefer subtitles though.)

I have to agree with Notginger and others. I think they try too hard to make the movies better, more exciting, more mind-boggling than anything out there at the time, and thus the stories suffer and they lose the original feel of the movies. In some cases they stray farther from the source material, in others they stick closer to the source material. The remake of "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" (Properly titled "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory") was closer to Roald Dahl's original, and I like both versions. Usually though I shudder when I read that something is being remade, whether it is a movie, a TV show, or a movie adaptation of a TV show. In my opinion making live action versions of established cartoons or of video games is also a big mistake. Comic books, well, I like most of the adaptations I've seen of them. While there is a tendency to lean on CGI and SFX, they have easy to follow source material and take the time to write good scripts, for the most part. Saying that, I have been disappointed by a few adaptations. A litle concerned, but still looking forward to "The Watchmen" and "TRON 2.0"...
