Taka: You have hit it right on. I think JT needs the good news to come from us readers, and not expect a Kyodo news feed to provide one. Nice picture, BTW.

Northlondon: No paranoia here. I'm bagging on JT and the crowd that normally gathers here. Now, I probably should not bag JT at all for posting this. Hell, I'm now inspired to find these photo ops around here (as long as I don't look at a Baskin Robbins around 8:30 pm)...Joke....

I mean, good on this guy doing something good, I just get tired of the same anti-US crowd here that JT draws.

Nice to see JT showing the US Navy doing something that is not crime related. So this means we're going to get hit with 1000 more negative stories before another one of these pops up.

Down here in Okinawa, we have Pizza-La. But you can always get Ramen or Soba pretty cheap. Really, you can eat better being single, but it's tough. I did it for a while.

Now, Minako-san is someone I could get along with:

“Honestly,” she says, “if I could get by on beer alone, that’d be great, but there’s my stomach to think of, so I eat some dried squid or whatever.” On days off, when (Spa! thinks) she should be catching up on her nutrition, she’s out drinking with friends instead.

And she has a husky voice, this might be interesting.....

Cleo, family values, pre-nups and rich Repubs? For rich Repubs, the pre-nub is equivalent to foreplay.

So, I guess while Hillary was Vice Pr..Um, I mean First Lady, speculating on futures (to the tune of a couple hundred thousand of not her money), then when the margin call came, she was not required to pay...Um, yeah, the Republicans are bad. Give me a break.

As far as family values, I would think that Mrs. McCain did the smart thing by protecting her assets from anything that could come in the future. I think she did the right thing, and the American people do NOT have a right to know what her finances are.

Now, the American people DO have the right to not vote for her husband. So this will work it self out.

    > What is a monster man package? Have I missed another mega trend? >

It's the digitized or hidden areas in J-manga.... He he..

I do agree that the "moral" decline is an issue all over the world. No religious ideologies here, just right and wrong. And I really think this starts in the home. Good, loving parents that treat their kids with the right amount of discipline and love (it can be done) will help. I didn't exactly have that growing up, but I'm giving it to my kids now. This is the starting point. Your kids may surprise you with the decisions they make if they are brought up correctly.

who are they gonna learn from ? japan's politicians and business 'leaders' are amazingly corrupt, and mom's out playing pachinko while dad tries to bang his secretary...am i leaving anyone out ?<

You forgot about the teachers and their underage "enjo kosai" students, and the manga that glorifies waifish girls with oversized breasts. They all meet up with otaku types with monster man packages....

    Now its complete.

This is similar to those that think having a salad is the way to loose weight. Sure, if your dressing is some vinegar (really, 0 calories), and you do not have any cheese or meat on it.

What I see on the US Bases here is women who go to Taco 4ell, and get the Taco salad. They then drown the thing in some type of "low fat or fat free" dressing, then get a Diet Coke. The Taco Salad at TB is the highest fat content item on the menu. I laugh my self silly when I see these "metabolically" challenged individuals eating this stuff. 60 grams of fat in that thing. Ha....

Low fat, no fat, baloney. As long as you are careful about your fat intake, and balance that with good foods and exercise, you'll be OK.

Loki: You have it right. The rally here was against US forces, and the prosecutor dropped the charges. And in the article above, the Okinawa rally was mentioned twice. Why? It had nothing to do with her case, and the 14 year old was not even raped (if she was, the prosecutor would have pressed the issue). The guy should not have been near her, but that's an issue for another day.

I do agree that the majority of the text was about rape in Japan, the fact is the story is another shot at the US presence in Japan.

This looks like two spunked-on burgers, a bit of onion, speared on a chopstick. I'll bite me nails rather than eat this bag o' cack.

I was going to say that they took two burgers, stacked them, and put some type of "sauce" over it. What gives with the sauce on top of something like this? It just does not look good.

Here in Okinawa, there is a Wendy's. They are the same, but obviously, the portions are smaller. Oh, and they tout the "Australian beef" logo all over their menu. Personally, a burger about once a month. I prefer soba for lunch.

As far as this being a crime, the woman should be charged with negligent homicide. Why? She chose to go play pachinko instead of caring for her child. She abandoned the child in the car so as to amuse herself. Yeah, the crime fits.

And there will be more of these this year as the summer season dawns. There will be more apologists coming forth, but it really doesn't matter. This kind of crime, anywhere in the world, should not go unpunished.

booboo: That is the real problem here. Japan does not support the handicapped, period. Germany does have a better social system, and they do take care of their citizens better (I lived there for over 10 years). The baby hatches there were meant for the teen pregnancies, where the father was nowhere to be found (or refused to support the girl/kid), or other traumatic reasons.

The idea of counseling here in Japan is a foreign idea. There is no social network, unlike Europe or the US. Young women have nowhere to go, and a telephone line (one that is) offering such support is futile at best. Japan does not like dealing with emotional stability issues.

Japan is not like Europe or the US, where your neighbors know who you are, who's in your house, and are helpful if you need something.

    Just my observations.

So, will there be a restriction of all JSDF and civilians, hell, the whole town be restricted and can't leave their homes? I just had to say it.

Of course this gets zero press. No need. It's OK for a J-military person to threaten a 12 year old.

    Cupidstunt: LOL.....

I must agree with the "tarento" overall here. I mean, they find these people that do a silly little 30 second or 1 minute act that makes some people laugh, and they are instant celebrities. Talent be damned, just make some people laugh once and they are talent.

Acting school? Hell no. Just wear a thong bikini and pump your fist up and down.

I think for women, the easy road is to be a "Junior Idol" (10-17 year old in a swimsuit/schoolgirl/gym clothes magazine. Nothing like having a mother force their child into this. Similar to all those Texas mothers that put 6 year olds in beauty contests. I digress), then keep modeling until someone wants to put their face on TV, whether its to be the stupid girl or a nice looking smart one. Thre real talent shows up, occasionally, in some dramas. And that is rare.

What the hell is a "whigger"? Where do people make this crap up at?

This has actually been around for a long time. It basically meant any white person, mostly male, who dress and act black. Personally, I don't care, people are people. Whatever. Back on topic.

The fact that J-girls hung with this guy because of image is normal. A certain segment of the population here will like you because you are different. This dirt bag is responsible for his actions. There were no voices. Rubbish. He wanted to do this, for whatever reason. I mean, he stole a kitchen knife from one girl, so he obviously was planning to do more than have some "steki" somewhere. I'd like to see him get hard labor in a J-jail. Shouting at him in Japanese and eating fish heads and rice....Better than death.

"there's a high pressure system in the south, and it is making it's way up north. If it could burst through, there would be some precipitation".

Yes, the US does require their meteorological society seal on individuals that present the weather. I'm sure all weather forecasts for Japan come from the JWA (Japanese Weather Association), so all they need here is a presenter.

This does make me think of an episode of Married with Children, where Kelly gets a job as a weather girl.
