All I ask is you share some of the balance on the issue. Hatoyama's fall was a combination of things, but for him to patently blame the US is not correct. And yes, the dealings behind the closed doors with the real people who run this country (bureaucrats) did him in.

apec: Can you answer this: The 2006 agreement was rooted far deeper than Koizumi. The start was in 1995 and it dragged on through other PM's and cabinet ministers. And even if the "new" Japanese government was out of sync with the agreement, it was still an agreement that should have been honored. The US even said fine, go ahead and give even more thought to this AFTER Hatoyama asked for more time.
The US was the good player here, and the bumbling neophyte government of Hatoyama did not want to listen to the LDP "old dogs". Oh well, he's still rich and can write a book.

Actually, with a balance of nuclear power things are kept in check. No nukes would equal armageddon. But that would never happen, as someone would have some.

vulcan: So if the US is so bad, why does Japan allow the troops to stay? And your nationality is?

His failure was focusing on an issue his country had already agreed with. Then neglecting his own countries issues. The falling birth rate, an economy in stagnation, broken promises.....Now that I think a little, he wrote his own fate.

Very good JT. You never get praise from this crowd, but this is well deserved.

Gun control will not solve issues like this. If someone wants to commit this type of crime, they will get the weapon that they desire. All controlling does is keep law abiding citizens from owning them.

Vulcan: You seem to confuse patriotism with the Democrats idea of free trade. With wide open trading in the US with little to no tariffs, companies will manufacture their goods at the lowest price (Chinese labor). And sell them at rates that are lower than domestically produced goods (hence Wal-Mart). China will continue to grow as long as the consumer feeds this loop.
So now the question for you Vulcan: Are you a patriot? And for what country? You detest the US, love Okinawa, and hate Japan. Time to come clean.

A lot of anti-US / pro-China forces on here. Really amazing considering all the free speech you can have in China.....
Wait, no you can't. And a friendly rise of China is a good thing? Wow. I think some of you on here that are in China's corner to move there and tell us what it's like, and how great the country is before knocking US/Japanese relations.

I bet there's a "stiff" penalty for this type of crime. I'm sure there's a "penile" code violation.
I love these stories.

Stiff-Sergeant I guess. Or maybe he was trying to play "hide the pickle".
But the jokes would have been very short if this was not an SDF guy.

The reason I always strap my kids in (and myself for that matter) is not because of my driving abilities. It's because everyone else can't drive.

I will tell you what I see in Okinawa:
All of the Americans that are base dwellers / here with the military: 99/100 have belts on
Okinawans: 1/10 wear them. And for kids, it's even less.
The feeling here, I get from the locals, is that traffic here is very slow, so there is no need. But boy, I get irate when I see a 3 year old standing on the front passenger side seat. Or two kids looking out the same window, hands grabbing the glass. The parents are just oblivious. And there are plenty of car seats to be had. Just pop into San-A, Jusco, or Toys-R-Us (Babies-R-Us too) and there they are.

Gurukun: Exactly. And aren't quite a few of the protesters flown in from mainland? Heh.
Tokyo: How about 3 years ago when the Tokyo government wanted to whitewash history by having textbooks changed? Nakaima showed up at that rally in Ginowan, 100,000 strong, to protest. Yeah, mainlanders get it. NOT.
This vote means Nakaima will discuss this with Tokyo and get it done. Then some changes and reductions can happen.
