Japanese females have always been "passive/aggressive" in terms of their wardrobe. They want your attention just so they can ignore you. The one that really gets my goat though are the high school girls that wear bright pink, blue, or purple bras under the white t-shirts or blouses. This is nothing more than a fashion faux paus where I come from. But in Japan ? Oh how they crave the attention !

"The fall was due mainly to soaring gasoline and food prices, which caused consumer sentiment to worsen, the Japan Food Service Association said."
Soaring food prices I understand. Tokyo is just too expensive considering the small quantity and poor dining conditions one must endure. Ex, screaming kids, loud music, shouting waiters etc.
But gas prices ? Can't figure that one out. Don't most people commute by train in the large cities ? I've never driven my vehicle to a restaurant in Tokyo or any of the outskirts. I'm more inclined to think that the general economic malaise in Japan continues. Consumers are simply unhappy with what's available and are probably saving their money for trips overseas, where I'm sure they will splurge to excess !

raja, you are absolutely correct,
"Japan should buy more food from low inflation, food producing nations, outside japan, to keep cost of living down."
But the Japanese government is a feeble network of old geezers and wrinkled cronies who think they can "export" their way back to prosperity. They simply haven't figured it out, that to save Japan's economy it must generate more domestic spending. Japan should be taking advantage of the dollar/yen ratio to flood the stores with wonderful products from overseas. But to do so would risk exposing the Japanese public to higher quality better products, at a cheaper price, than what domestic suppliers can offer. In short, the Japanese public is naive to what food products should really cost. Domestic companies have taken advantage of their consumers for years. Under the current economic conditions the Japanese are about to get a glimpse into "pandora's" box ! Amazing as to what they might find.

"Bringing France closer to the United States on defense, Sarkozy confirmed France’s plans to return to NATO’s integrated command, which it left in 1966 when Charles de Gaulle rejected U.S. dominance of the alliance."
The lovefest continues as you just gotta love this Sarkozy guy !
"The most immediate threat today is that of a terrorist attack,” said the president. “The threat is there, it is real and we know that it can tomorrow take on a new form, even more serious, with nuclear, chemical and biological means.”
Looks like the French might finally get on board. If so, you just watch as Bush and company set the middle east on fire ! Bought damn time the French got tired of seeing their country run over by muslim beligerants. This could get interesting as France could now sway many in Europe to finally get serious about fighting terrorism, of course now that the US has a handle on Iraq it's all starting to look like a U.S. victory. Sarkozy aint no dummy, he knows when to jump on the band wagon, just before it marches down mainstreet !

"the topic at hand was Toyota trying to be more energy efficient and self sustaining"
I disagree ! I'm with those that look at this as nothing but an attempt to curb criticism of recent poor press over things like "voluntary overtime", recalls, and news that Toyota has been dumping chemicals into local rivers and water tributaries. Toyota has never had a history of charitable donations here in Japan. And the only things they do overseas, for example in Africa, is sponsor sports tournaments, a form of advertising ! 50,000 trees is hardly anything to boast about. For anyone to tout this afternoon of tree planting as more than it is is suspect, a Toyota exec maybe. If so, read this carefully, "The worlds number one car manufacturer can afford more than 50,000 trees for a small plant in no-where Japan" ! Sheesh !

Nessie, I would agree. I actually had the misfortune of having to work with Japan's police force. What a bunch of childish fools I found them to be. They stole from each other, engaged in sexual encounters with underage women, consistently lied to their bosses and co-workers about their daily routines, and spent a good part of their weekends drunk to the nines ! And then, would have the nads to brag about it to me come Monday morning ! What a serious disappointment they turned out to be ! And the ladies ? Nothing more than routine traffic control ! Parking tickets, bicycle safety speeches at the local schools. Nothing more than cute girls in cute uniforms, hell I can see that at Akihabara !

Sham shame Japan ! Creating bogus and artificial demand, for a readily available product, should be a criminal offense ! I'll not be supporting the Hokkaido butter farms at all ! Too bad there is no market watchdog in Japan like other "advanced" nations- this simply wouldn't be tolerated ! But then again this is, Japan !

Whats with the misleading headline ? The Saudis are upping their production by "300,000 barrels a day to help meet the US needs."
And Bush left, as they say, "satified" !
Seems to me it's the poli's back home who are not satisfied. Once again Bush is right. The American public needs to address it's addiction to foreign oil, move on with alternative fuels (too bad for the rest of the planet that is about to face starvation as corn crops become bio fuels, maybe the French can help), and basically let the Arab nations hash out billions of barrels of "unwanted" petro products in the future. I have no problems with that scenario ! Non what so ever !

More loonies on the loose in safety Japan ! God what a messed up society this has become. Murdering a family member seems to be in vogue these past 2-3 years. Umm, can we get some marriage and family counselors over here in Japan ? They all at each other's throats... literally !
