"I would be pissed at the US team if they failed to be competitive again in their own tourney"
Sorry, it's not the American's tourney. They event was promoted by MLB and the players union and is sanctioned by the "International Baseball Federation" as well as professional baseball leagues from Japan, Korea, Mexico, etc.
As for the Americans being "competitive", well its clear they are, even though they are not motivated or overly enthused. And who could blame them ? Stats after the last WBC showed on average that major league pitchers that participated in the WBC, when compared with their previous years, had higher eras, more losses, and were more prone to injury ! To date the US has lost 3 players to injury in this tournement including Chipper Jones, Dustin Pedroia, and Ryan Braun of the Brewers... gonna be some p.o'ed major league teams out there to get these damaged goods back.

Boy look at the "na-na-nannygoats" we got here. I mean really, Yahoos webpage is just full of WBC news including this story. The American sportspages are also covering the events in much more detail than we have here at Japantoday... I mean where are the pages strictly devoted to team America when they win ? Like todays trouncing of the Netherlands ? No photo ? Hmm. As for this old news, make no mistake, Puerto Rico is a threat to win the whole thing. Getting beat by 10 runs is by no means embarrasing. On the contrary, PR is swinging some hot sticks right now. Their top 10 batters have 7 hitting over 300. They are also second currently in team batting.
As for the US, no surprises. Their pitching is weak. Hitters will have to take up the slack. In short, I don't see the USA winning if their offense is held under 6-7 runs. I expect them to get a rematch with Venezuela and then again Puerto Rico, that game will decide who plays Cuba for the title. Yep, as much as some of you want to gloat, the Americans are still in the hunt !

"China is holding enough US currency to sink the US economically if they were to ever sell the US$$ back."
Hardly ! The US economy is extremely resiliant. Any threats to Americas currency would just result in the US holding back all financial aid and charitable donations over a 5 year period. Maybe this is what the US should start to consider. Every year millions and millions of dollars go overseas for others who, as far as I can gather, don't appreciate it.

This is considered a highlight for Darvish ?
"He worked two scoreless innings, allowing two hits, two walks and had two strikeouts."
Hope he doesn't plan on making a career of 4 base runners every two innings !

The hyperbole continues. Really now, in the history of the planet, is an American presidents choice of vocabulary so important ? obama would make better use of his time by announcing concrete plans to put Americans back to work rather than this silliness in differences with the former president. Again, does Obama realize the campaign is over and he won ?

They've done this before, launch a missile over Japan that is, with little criticism or fallout from the Japanese government. As noisy as the folks in Hiroshima get every August you'd think they would be up in arms over tests like this... but then again, if it's not America, why bother.

Umm, because Japanese want us to buy their trinkets maybe ?

"WBC a big hit with TV viewers in Japan"
Ahhh, the irony ! Imagine if they really promoted the tournement as outlined in the WBC objective. Once again Japans focus on nationalism interferes with the big picture.

"I am all for gun control. I am glad that only yaks and cops have guns in Japan."
Nonsense ! Every farmer north of Tokyo has some kind of firearm to take care of "the bear problem" ! Toss in the thousands of "air guns", that can be modified, kids pack around and you got quite a bit of firepower out there on the streets.
"Unfortunately, when you give people guns mass murder can happen."
i feel your concern, but the same people interested in "mass murder" will undoubtedly find "bombs" more their weapon of choice. Pick yer poison I guess, those really interesested in killing will resort to bombs if guns are not available.

Ahhh yes, those evil Americans and their guns. Japantoday just can't resist such a brazen headline as shooting rampage, or can they ?

Hah,
"Good point. Komatsu has made millions of dollars for the American people, so people shouldn't judge Komatsu so harshly."
Try the other way around... Komatsu has made millions, if not billions off the American consumer for years. Why Japanese companies would trash talk their best customer for the past 20 years is unforgiveable.

If I may, No surprise to tonights game Japan vrs Korea. I see Northlondon waving the hinomaru, but really now. koreas starting pitcher Kim looked about as serious as a school boy playing hookie ! Sorry kids, this is still spring training for many of the pitchers. The advantage surely leans towards the hitters right now... just ask Matsuzaka ! I mean the dumpy tub of goo threw one wild pitch after another, and then gave up a monster home run ! And as usual I couldn't get excited about Ichiro. I mean he got a hit off a guy throwing 130-140 kphs ! hardly major league stuff... and nothing like what he will see in the playoff round, against Cuba. Nope, I see Ichiro still struggling. I had to love the way Jang pitched him. Classic ! High and tight first pitch. Junk away on the second. Third catches a corner and the Ichiro whiffs chasing the "low and away" ... Beautiful ! The future is thus, both Korea and Japan advance but both will fall to the Cubans. Look for the Dominicans or Americans to face team Cuba in the final.

"What a disaster."
Indeed. During the run-up to the presidency Obama was all positive. Accordingly the Dow jumped into the 9000's. Then the day after Obama's very negative and gloomy inaguration speech, well, free fall. It's been like this ever since. Everytime the guy opens his mouth and scares the masses, the Dow dives. Just a few days ago he claimed the markets had hit bottom and sure enough the Dow jumped a few hundred points... only to have him backtrack and let another slide begin. Is the guy dim or what ? How long will it take him to figure it out... Ronald Reagan he's not.

Allow me to vent. Why was this game not shown on terrestrial television like all of Japans games ? I find it shocking that the organizers of this tournement gave Japan broadcasting rights and home field advantage without clarifying how exactly Japan would promote the tournement. As it looks right now we are only going to see games when Japan is participating. That is balderdash as it promotes Japanese nationals at the expense of the other participating nations, how rude ! I am a baseball fan and am very interested in how China was able to keep Ichiro hitless and wether or not they will be able to maintain this level. I also very much wanted to see this Korean team. They are the defending Olympic champions, beat Japan twice in the last WBC, will advance to the next stage, and have a good shot at winning it all... so why the boycott of team Korea ? Now for those of you about to promote skyperfect or BS, please stop ! If team Japan is good enough for terrestrial tv then so are the other three participating nations. This is absolutely disgraceful !
