I don't see how 12,000 kilowatts can supply 100,000 households. Correction needed here.

A lot of foreigners living in Japan would probably benefit from reading this book. The sections that deal with Japanese personality are certainly interesting. Keep in mind though that this text was written in the early 70s so much of it is dated.

The only way to ensure your safety while biking in the city is to assume that everyone else is an inattentive idiot. It's a good rule of thumb if you're driving a car as well... or walking... sitting in a park (well, you get the idea!)

When was this article written? The 'tranquil waterway' in Shuzenji has been a construction site for a number of months now.

There is one glaring omission from this article. This was a NON-BINDING referendum. I have to completely disagree with Joebigs on this one. Asking for a second four year term is nothing like what Chavez did. Multi-term presidencies is a norm in most democracies. Make no mistake, this man was removed from power because he had progressive ideas and envisioned his citizens living more dignified lives. Honduras, like many other Central and South American countries has a VERY sharp social, political and cultural divide between rich and poor. All he wanted to do was reduce those divides through a more empowering social safety net. For decades, South American countries have been secretly or overtly ruled by right-wing, elitist military leaders. Many of them claimed to derive their rule through democratic origins. This democracy was never a true democracy. It included vote-rigging and oligarchic rule over the free press. It's time for a change to that pattern of rule -even if it requires less "democratic" means.

This should be constantly monitored by the police. Seems like a great way for pedophiles to get in contact with really vulnerable children.
There's no way to know what these girls were running away from. Their home lives may have been much worse than what these guys were offering. It's easy to judge the young girls without knowing their situations. What is certain is that they were vulnerable and needed protection and help. What they got instead was a bunch of sexo pedophiles.

Obama played this issue perfectly as far as diplomacy is concerned. Allowing the protests to be seen as legitimate people power with no interference from the US and then, in a timely manner, condemning the violence towards the protestors.
Much be hard to watch for all those who want so desperately for Obama to fail.

These headlines are ridiculous! Read the transcripts of what Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said, there were no threats of violence. Tomorrow's headline will be "Hundreds of Millions March in Iran."

I love how people are screaming for Mousavi when little over a week ago they had never even heard his name before. The majority of people do not live in Tehran. The majority of rural voters selected Ahmadinejad. We may not be happy with that but it seems the people have spoken. Sour grapes?

Of course I would let him get off with an apology (at the very worst I would accept his apology but not forgive him). I don't advocate violence, like you do. skip, did you watch the comment he made? If you walked around hitting people for those kids of comments you'd spend a fair amount of time in jail. Once again, he said nothing about rape. Period. Infer as much as you want from what he said but he certainly wasn't advocating statutory rape.

Wow, pretty obvious (once again) that most people posting here didn't even here Letterman's joke. He never said anything about rape. He never used either of the daughter's names. It was a tasteless joke that was uncalled for and poorly delivered. But before criticizing and jumping on the bandwagon at least get a clue. He made a mistake and apologized for it.
Those here who think that Letterman should be assaulted for his comments should seriously seek some help before they end up in jail.

I wonder if history is repeating itself. Tend to agree with SezWho2. Certainly wouldn't be the first time. Although many would like to pretend that the Shah got into power on his own.

So let me get this straight, Sarge, telepromter, superlib et. al are upset because Obama hasn't fixed in 5 months what Bush took 8 years to break? Harhar!
Guys, grow up a bit. A year from now you'll be eating your own words... Moreover, there is absolutely no doubt that the recession will be over before the next election. You know what that means ;)
