Marcels, first of all get your facts right, he's 18 at the moment. And a player in top 20 can snatch a Grand Slam, with a lot of work, inspiration and luck. But certainly not as improbable as some posters suggest

Anglootaku, I was married in a Japanese shrine, does that make me a shintoist? :)
Of course Steve Jobs was not a perfect angel of superhuman qualities. He was a genius entrepreneur of great vision and great strength to fight for his vision, but otherwise an ordinary person with qualities and defects. To achieve what he achieved, he had to collide with many people and impose his will, sometimes not is a pleasent manner (sent from a MacBookPro)

as much as I don't like Kameda, I don't think any of you guys actually bothered to read the article. It states there clearly that he is unhappy with the lower ranked opponent, but Ruiz had another fight arranged and they plan the next fight with him

Gloomy has been around for a while, one of my friends used it as wallpaper on the laptop about 10 years ago, and that's how I first met this character. Surely not for kids, but damn funny. It has an official home-page, also translated in English: http://www.chax.cc/main.html?en

"revoke his driver's license forever"
Johannes, the only problem with this idea is that he didn't have a driving license in the first place. Indeed, there is no intention in killing somebody when you drive drunk and without a license, but I doubt that the family of the 19 year old would be very impressed by this argument. And I would agree to you to same extent, if it wouldn't be for the hit-and-run part. In my opinion, this completely nullifies the lack of intention argument. he let the young guy die there on the street, that's murder in my opinion

does this mean that all the companies that advertise diet, health, rejuvenating, cosmetic, hair grow, etc., etc. products are to be sued? Honda's advertising is damn honest compared with the bs these companies claim

this reminds me of the infamous vuvuzela issue. tennis is both a sport and a business. woman's final was a short, non-fighting affair, boring to the eye and unbearable to the ears. man's final was an ultimate battle that even non-tennis fans would enjoy, and the ears were comfortable with a few sporadic grunts and public's roar. taking into account that woman are now paid equally to men, under these circumstances the organizers will prefer to invest into men's matches, because they can lose money on women's tennis, both ticket sales'-wise and TV audience-wise.
and like the posters above, I do believe that especially former soviet players are coached to shriek as insanely and annoyingly possible. and I say that as a former pro tennis player. unfortunately, this may negatively affect the future of women's tennis, because once the ratings are down and money dry up, they will suffer the most.

I live in central Tokyo just because is close to work. It's a quiet residential area, close to train and subway stations that both me and my wife like, but it's just too expensive. And as we love going out in weekends, the traffic jams when leaving and coming back to Tokyo are really annoying

I guess Japan changed me a lot, but also age changed me a lot (13 years, I came here when I was 20). It's impossible to differentiate now between the two. I became a much calmer and controlled person, and mentally stronger to deal with the everyday stress. On the bad side, I became too workaholic and my family life may suffer from this. I drink more (everyday actually), a lousy way to cope with stress. I think more before saying something, and I listen more to other people.

Borscht, there are back-up players. Before the test begins, the students do a check-up listening. If there is any problem, the player will be replaced. If there is a malfunction after the test started, the student will take the test again in a special room, from the point where the player malfunctioned. The large number of students having to tae the test again is due to the test distribution errors. the system changed from the last year, and some professors did mistakes.
Tmarie, it's impossible to standardize the grading of the students in all the high schools all over Japan, and that's why they have a standardized exam.

I understand Edano's position on this, it would be close to impossible to have a meeting while protesters are present. We had the same problem in a debate open to public of a much less hot topic (the future of science in Japan), where security had to escort two hysterical guys out. nobody understood what the hell those guys wanted or protested against.

Samwatters and the rest, you criticize the IC players so much, but did you actually read the article? 18 players (in 14 centers) out of 555,537 malfunctioned, that's actually not bad. and of course they had replacements (I was there), so no student suffered from this problem. The bigger problems was with the delivery in Kesennuma, but that's a different story altogether.

Newsman, it already does, at least in some departments. Same with the MS thesis and PhD thesis, both are in English (including the defense). if there will be a serious increase in foreign students, more departments and maybe even the undergad school will follow suit.
the discussion about starting in fall became about 2 years ago, but it's a very serious decision and it took time to crystallize. because if Todai does it, basically it will force the entire educational system to change. and this may also extend to the companies. Ironically, the April FY started because of the British tax system...
Change, Todai also has the September graduation system in place, it is optional. but they want to make it the general rule, that is all the fuss about.
MaboDofu, the special thing about Todai is that it is ranked the best uni in Asia and somewhere in top 20 in the world. the research level is high, facilities are good, research funds are generous, that's why it attracts many international graduate students, PDs and researchers (and I've been there for the last 12 years, so I know what I'm talking about). They are trying to make everything more international, but of course it takes time.
