It was in the news about one months ago: the pilot and copilot of an Air India flight were fighting (full blown brawl) with two crew members during the fight: http://blogs.abcnews.com/theworldnewser/2009/10/air-india-pilots-crew-scuffle-leaving-cockpit-unmanned.html that's what I call onflight entertainment

We have a guy who criticizes an institution. He wants to explain the reasons why, but he is forbidden out of fear that the respective institution will start a repression. Well, I've never heard the guy, I don't even care about what he says, but the institution proves him right

you can get nice suits in Japan, but not from Aoki. they have mass production of cheap suits for the everyday salaryman, kinda Uniqlo of the suits. if you want quality, follow societymike's advice

and I've just notice: "meaning 1/4 of population practice Islam" is not true. as I can exemplify with my friends who never pray, eat pork and drink beer, but they are registered as muslims by birth and are afraid of changing that

Sabiwabi, of course it is true. the only difference is that if you want to change or quit your religion that was forced upon you when you were a few months old, Islam is one of the very few I know that condemn you to death. let Cat Stevens try

as another factor, I would ad that being born in a muslim background makes you automatically a muslim, and trying to change is strongly countered. I have friends who are muslims on paper, but couldn't care less about religion

This stupid nationalistic thing starts to get to my nerves. The main guy is Chinese-born, and has dual citizenship (English-American), the other guy is Canadian-American. THis hole nationality thing goes completely against the Nobel prize spirit

It doesn't necessarily mean they work together, their groups brought different contributions to the same topic. However, collaboration between two research groups does not mean that they work shoulder to shoulder in the lab, but they exchange results and ideas, and each brings his/her expertise to the project. Moreover, the professor itself usually doesn't do any experimental work, students and postdocs do the experiments and then discuss the results with the prof. Who can further discuss them with his collaborators.

it's funny how the Nobel foundation does its best to avoid the nationalistic thing, but everybody else loves it. Also, all the universities that the laureates ever attended will claim them :)

on a serious tone, it's great two women took it, since science has been criticized to be a male-dominated business (only 2% of Nobel laureates in science are women, excluding this year winners)

there is nowhere stated that the truck was speeding. but it is stated that the boy jumped in front of the vehicle from a blind spot. at this point, it's mostly the boy's fault. of course, the driver may have been drunk, speeding, asleep, talking on the phone etc., but let's not rush to generalize from personal experiences, truck driver = speeding, etc. etc.
