Odaiba is beautiful at night, and a walk in the Kaihin Park is highly recommended for a date, I was always successful with that trick. Especially cause I live nearby :)

ultradodgy, actually I know. that's the humanities guys. a PhD in history doesn't really put food on your table, only if you are extremely good or extremely lucky. (but you can also say that while I was working 12-14 hours a day, 6 days a week during my PhD, the guy was going 2 hours per week to school for a seminar. for the same pay)

Richard III, I'm one of those fools. 400k per month as postdoc, then a little less as AP (the basic salary, there are bonuses). I don't see anything to complain about. You're good, you get a good deal. You're not, go home. Ever tried to look for a position in US if Japan sucks so bad?

pneumonia sucks pretty hard, I had it two times, but it's relatively easily treated. I pity her not for dying from this disease, I pity her for dying alone, with nobody checking on her for week(s). RIP

what I fail to understand is why these weirdo next door guys you can see acting strange in the neighborhood or shouting on trains roam so freely in Japan? I was just wandering, how can you distinguish a genuine fair trade business from the many scams that brandish a good cause to get you money? (no intention whatsoever to doubt People Tree, but in my country I wanted to contribute with some of this sort of companies, to find out later they were phony charity)
