I can't imagine something more horrible than passing the Japanese summer without any holiday. I'm an European and it was difficult enough for me to adapt to a life without one month holiday. I will take one week off, which is a bit short, but too much work piling up...

Electric, you are so very right, but not in the world of journalism. Why? Simply, ask any news source what's the impact of the news that scientist X dix Y vs. the news of a hot model doing Z. One of the winners from last year is my student (no hot model at last year's ceremony), and I can safely assume that these girls are very uncomfortable in the presence of a top model dressed according to the latest fashion.

Peter, you confuse press releases with peer reviewed journals. Nature Geoscience is a top journal with strict reviewing policies, and publishes quality work. Prof. Kato has no intention to commercialize this finding, and I don't really know how he can do it. he found it, he published it. the media hype is another thing, but there is no base for insulting fine research published in a top journal

a small comment on the Li/Li ion discussion: the difference is that metallic lithium get easily oxidized to lithium ion, whereas lithium ion does not easily get reduced to metallic ion. This gives you the difference in their properties: ionic lithium resembles ionic sodium (the one in salt), it's soluble in water, rather non-reactive and non-toxic. By contrast, metallic lithium reacts violently with water, and may also ignite when freshly cut, posing safety hazards.

Frungy, I didn't really understand why the solar panels require oil to produce. I think they use amorphous silicon panels, which has no connection whatsoever with oil. Maybe their plastic frame, but I don't see any point at the moment in starting a polemic about the utility vs pollution of plastics if organic solar cells become competitive, you may have a point. but the advantages would offset that point. combined with the intensive research into finding alternative carbon sources

I fly a lot, and I almost exclusively fly ANA, JAL or Cathay. I'm a very considerate and polite person, and in return I'm usually treated very well by plane staff or immigration, and I expect to be treated so. I had bad experiences with Delta, so I'll never fly them again. For example, for a 12 hour flight, they only had a chicken meal left, and I hate chicken. While I was hungry and annoyed at the situation, the attendant was trying to be funny and convince me to start eating chicken, which only annoyed me even more. Due to bad weather we were late 7 hours, lost the connection flight and I arrived in Chicago after midnight. Of course, no compensation. Moreover, they lost my luggage, so I had to live for 3 days with the few clothes from the carry on bag. When finally my suitcase arrived, it had 2 big cracks. I called Delta, they told me to come to the airport, give them the suitcase, they will fix it in a few days, and then I would have to go again to O'Hare to get it. I threw the damn suitcase, and since then I never used Delta again. Oh, I remember a strange situation with Nothwest Airlines, for an international flight, I go to the airport and they tell they don't have seats anymore! (overbooking) They put me on a Chinese plane a few hours later (but they did compensate me).

great job police! I'm a motorcycle rider and I'm absolutely paranoid about bicycles, I had enough dangerous encounters with them. And I bicycle is fast and it doesn't give you time to promptly response. Cellphones, earphones, umbrellas, all of them are illegal, and the police should start enforcing that

Zenny11, it's difficult to find an MT car nowadays. just a few truck or expensive sport cars. I just got my licenseand I want to rent a MT car, there are a few, but they are booked well in advance.

this is the reason why at driving schools, they are required to do a practice simulating a parking situation and mistakingly pressing the accelerator. there are many incidents, all involving AT cars, and the instructors were telling me they wished MT cares would come back to fashion.

Gwragged, my experience is limited (but not zero, and doubled by a very bitter experience), but a good friend of mine is having a really good time. you have to know where and how to initiate the contacts. Of course, I never said "in the same numbers as men", we all know that's of course impossible.

it's either my browser (Safari on Mac OS10.6) or the whole page is too much to the left of the window apart from that, I like the new format. I tend to agree with Zenny, I mostly access JT from work, and I may get weird looks and gossip from my students

so the reasons for this success are the campaign to find new members and the late release of the album. and I was thinking about the quality of the songs, silly me... I like the prostitute-dressed girl in the front though. the one near the elephant (oh my Freud)

YongYang, I think the fingerprints thing was added later (or I missed it). in that case he looks pretty gulty, but he still deserves a fair trial. If he is found guilty, then let him rot in jail
