Somebody over at Homeland/Immigration ought to be hung from the rafters for this disgrace.

    My sentiments exactly.

Also interesting that the 3 winners of the 2009 Nobel Prize in Medicine got a mere $1.43 million to split between them for a lifetime of achievement. The rewards are totally out of whack given what these people provide to society.

That has to be one of the best comments I have ever read on JT. Indeed, who offers the greater benefit to society, somebody like Florey, Fleming or Salk, or somebody like the faceless minions who work on Wall Street?

Don't know what the situation is these days, however, some years ago a number of Japanese nationals (invariably women) were arrested in various countries overseas for leaving their children unattended in motor vehicles. These cases often occurred in summer in places like California (and I can remember at least two cases in Australia). Anyway, the attitude towards leaving children alone in vehicles in this country is very lax. As such, in addition to trying to find out who shifted the baby (babies that small do not walk by themselves), the cops should consider a charge of reckless endangerment for the mother as well. Then again, I won't hold my breath.....

Would be interesting to consider what would happen if the boot was on the other foot. For example, how would Israel react if its ambassador was called in for a ear-bashing? Anyone for claims of antisemitism? Furthermore, I think that comments linking Turkey to more radical regimes are a bit out of line.

This one could be develop into a PR problem for the US army. Then again, the army is not a 9-5 job and this woman has a duty to follow orders, irrespective of family issues. Indeed, if she was in such dire straights, she should have approached her superiors with her problem rather than failing to appear.

Anyway, the army needs to get its head on and realize that dragging a 21 year old through the military legal system is not going to win it any points in the wider community (from which it recruits). As such, this problem needs to go away quietly, with either a separation from service or a reconsideration of the assignment. Personally speaking, from the army point of view, getting rid of this woman would probably be the better option, because any displays of charity might be used by other soldiers to jump on the bandwagon.

The good, the bad and the ugly.

Had a number of run-ins with the police over the years, none of them really bad. One I remember was being out at dinner with my brother-in-law. On leaving a restaurant we were accosted by two young cops who wanted to see my registration card. This had rather unexpected results, however, as my brother-in-law told the nice young officers quite bluntly to kxss his bxtt. They were going to arrest him and they dragged him down the koban. S hit the F, however, when their watch commander recognized my brother in law as a former judo instructor at the National Policy Academy (and current squad leader in the NPA's organized crime squad). Before you blink, out came the tea and bickies.

What a joke, arguments regarding whaling aside, only a fool would believe that a sunken boat would not have some form of environmental impact on such a pristine environment.

Indeed, irrespective of their actions, Sea Shepherd should be held to account for venturing into the Great Southern Ocean in such a flimsy craft which was obviously not up to the rigors of the voyage. Sure, it was the Japanese whalers that did them in, but it could have just as easily been an ice flow or some other natural occurrence.

What is this with putting down pets? If you really love the animal, you do it yourself. It is one part (a somewhat unsavory part) of being a responsible owner.

Cleo I think you have got it wrong, and your comparison is mute point. I seem to remember that your Shiba came to you as a pup? Puppies bite everything in sight until their teeth settle. What you have here, however, is something completely different. Hunting dogs (and I would assume that these dogs have been hunted) are not your normal house pet. Furthermore, once they have been out hunting a couple of times, they get a certain taste for blood. Now the responsible handler knows this, and he makes sure his dogs don't free-lance, whether the target is cats or small children. The reason being that, if the dogs do act up, it will be impossible to rein them in, especially a pack hunter like this animals seem to be. Moreover, you should view it from the dogs mentality. Which is the easier kill option, kids down the local park or a pxssed off wild pig. Not really a contest is it. So as I said, these dogs will do it again if given the opportunity.

PS. Hope both of your dogs are in good health. We have just had a litter of pups.

Farmer sounds like a right loony, he should pay all the medical expenses and be arrested and charged with reckless endangerment/negligence. The dogs (especially hunting dogs) also need to be put down because once they have bitten into people, they will do it again.

Ah the socialists, got to love the comrades. Still living in the 1950s and very proud of the fact. Also have to admire this woman who, despite leading a party who actively supplied information to North Korea for years and frustrated issues regarding the kidnapping of Japanese nationals, nevertheless sees herself as being fit to educate the rest of us regarding the real evil, The United States. Indeed, once she warms up to her task, I reckon Fukushima will start calling the Americans by that tried and true moniker, "US Imperialists."

What a joke!!! And who does this woman actually represent? The socialists? You mean that rump of party that has been singularly unsuccessful in elections for the last 20 years. Indeed, perhaps this clown should keep crowing, because sooner or later she and her party will be joining the Dodo.

After the police have put the entire entertainment industry in jail, perhaps we can finally get some decent music and TV in this country...

If only it was that easy! What would the charge be? Crimes against humanity.

Absolutely earth shattering, and a little plaque to boot. I think all JT readers can now rest easily after hearing the results of this award. North Korean arms seized in Thailand, murder and mayhem in Japan, kids starving in Africa, and now this. Thanks eds for making my day complete.
