And the Japanese are weak at software/systems, but "monozukuri" now requires the incorporation of software into the artifact. They need to employ Americans, or Indians, or people who are ego-invested in the logos. The Japanese call logic "rikustu" which is a bit of an insult.

"It is wrong to judge parents"
How can a 25 year old man be anything but partly the product of his upbringing? For 20 of those years he was his parents' ward.
I agree that the older generation appear kind and gentle.
Reading the criminals blog posts, it seems that he the criminal himself was appearance wise "kind and gentle" but then started stabbing people.

It is common in Asia to believe all parents have a degree of responsibility for their progeny or progenies' actions. From that perspective, it is of course very sad (all round) but unsurprsing that there is fallout, at least psychologically, for the parents too.
There is cultural psychological research (Richard Nisbett and team, Uni of Michigan) on the extent to which crime is considered to be the result of the criminals actions and or the result of the individual's enviroment (including upbringing). For example, it was found that Chinese newspapers were far more likely to mention the environment (including upbringing) surrounding criminals' actions, whereas US newspapers were more likely designate the action a result of the individuals choices (in a vacuum as it were).
I think that the actions of individuals are not the result of a rational decision made in the light of day with no strings attached, but that the "rational decision" is partly an epiphenomenon after the event: the decision took place unconciously. The "rational decision" is partly the rationalisation afterwards, and the prime mover, the unconscious, is mire of influences, including those of our upbringing.
But then to say that sounds like I am abnegating responsibility. I don't think that I have the FULL responsibility to abnegate. One of the things that an individual can do is to realise that they (I) am partly a result of their upbringing, and reflect on the ways in which my upbringinging may be affecting their actions.
But then again, from an extreme "unconscious-believers'" point of view, the act of reflecting about ones upbringing is also a result of ones unconscious.
I think that there is a middle path. We can and should take responsibility for our actions. But we can and should realise that we are influenced, and by this realisation, we do not take less, but more responsibility for our actions, but still not 100%.

"Asian stars who aren't martial arts stars are known in Asia and Asia only basically."
There are a lot of people in Asia. Asia is home to 60% of the world's population.

Sorry, yes, at the same time I have to agree with ahocchau, and ensnaturae, whatever the truth of the accusations, his music, taken as a whole (the oeuvre, the dancing, the timeliness, the total presentation) was total genius, and what genius does not have faults? This man was channelling the force. Respect. I will see the movie.

I think that its success will depend on how successfully they can market it as the replacement for paper books/papers/magazines. It looks to be the same size as a magazine. Perhaps if it rolled up.

It doesn't seem like a bad idea to me. Only local ones mind you. If we are given the vote in local elections we may feel more included, more cooperative, more citizenly.

USNinJapan2 I think that the current kindle does not support Japanese characters. At least the online Kindle content creation site does not. I hope that the new "International" Kindle will.

The laptop PC market, especially, seems to forget that humans are not evolving as fast as the chips. My (internet using, wordprocessing, powerpoint, excel, email) needs are met by my 7 year old computer. There is no need for the power of the latest processors in a portable computer. And yet we are expected to keep forking out 1000-2000 USD for the latest technology. To keep laptops at that sort of price makers need to put a lot more into laptops (phones, video cameras, tablets, GPS) and think of new functions for them, or make "netbooks" and give them away.
In the days of the give-away (cheap) computer the Taiwanese/Chinese OEM manufacturers that were always making the computers anyway, should come into their own.

This is false. The whales in question are only semi-protected, with rights given to the Japanese to hunt them.
Doing what you believe in is fine sometimes, but as pawatan points out it is not sufficient - the Somalians probably have some justification for what they do.

As usual people say how this demonstrates that that sad things happen specifically "here," "in Japan," due to 'Japanese craziness,' or something in the (Japanese) water.
"Yakkai na mono" suggests that someone said that she and the children were a pain in the butt, a grind or inconvenience. It sounds like a quote. I.e. that someone refered to helping her or the children in that way, and she said "well if you think that way then..."
It reminds me of a greek tragedy.

Mechanical accelerator pedals are pulled back to the off/up position by a spring that must be strong enough to move a long cable, and perhaps even throttle. The spring to return an accelerator pedal to the off/up position in an electronic system can be any strength. Freed of any mechanical limitation, Toyota may have made the pedal easier to push, and easier to snag on matting.
