I thought it was already free kids up to 16! No?! So they can start providing 24 hour care for the old folks but nothing for these kids. Messed up priorities!!

You do know most shop personnel are nice to you because they have to be? The chitchat you miss is artifical. As someone who worked in the service industry home, I can personally tell you you're wrong. I loved chatting to customers. Helped pass the time and meet some very interesting people. Keep waving your Japanese flag and looking down on everyone not Japanese!

Like I said, always ready for an argument. The very fact that the hospital staff didn't point it out speaks volumes.

Ambro, I am rather amusing when discussing amusing things. Organ transplants and the lack of them is not amusing to me. Sorry you think this is a topic to joke about. I certainly don't.

Ah Cleo, always looking for an argument! Like I said earlier, I checked at the hospital and they had none!

Amb, plenty of Muslims will not donate because they feel it is in the Koran that thebidy must be whole when laid to rest. Plenty go by that regardless of what a few leaders say. You needn't get do jumpy.

Yes indeed it was in the news if you know about it but was it big news or news that goes under the radar? Big difference. Did jt carry the story because I certainly didn't see it.

The whole topic needs to be discussed more and rules changed. Family only for live donations?! Pathetic.

The issue with foreigner and blood are pretty well up to where you go. I went to a red cross truck years ago and they wouldn't let me donate.

Or perhaps he's just been laid off from work or the kid he put through uni can't find a job?! Why jump and assume he hates women?! The guy has issues indeed but we don't know what or why.

No complaints here until you have a problem or a request. When that happen, it goes to being good to horrific. "The customer is always right" it not well known here. Things that break, are bad quality... have fun with getting that sorted.

I prefer the service abroad to be honest. I like the chitchat and actual communication. Here? They follow a script and it is very impersonal. Efficient? Yes. Personal? Def not.

Tanigaki needs to shut his trap. How about HE look at all the lies his party has said to the public - heck, they wanted to raise taxes and now won't support it just to be petty. How about HE looks at all the problems his party created for this country - dispatch workers, high unemployment, losing the pension numbers, lower birthrate..

I am no fan of Noda but I really, really do wish he would tell Tanigaki to shut up and point out all the crap his party did.

So the man is married, has a girlfriend, hates the girlfriend's kid so tries to hurt him. Mom is dating a married loser and was probably well aware that this guy hated her son. Both need to be locked up and that poor kid needs to be raised by someone else who will love him How the heck do you "hate" a five year old? Yeah, they can be loud and dirty but hate?? Christ. Yes. such a "safety" country.

Things people don't really need - the price of food is through the roof right now. 300 yen for lettuce? A joke.

Ogi, have you bothered to read other people's posts? ot juts me who is having a chuckle. You were asked to name companies. Go on then, Name them. Name the products the Japanese are taking the world by storm with. I can name numerous Korean examples - LG, Hyundai, Samsung.. You've got Toyota... which is laying people off and just lost the market share in the US... Keep your hand in the sand and tell yourself it will all be okay if you like. Reality is very different.

**I completely approve of the Japanese laws governing organ transplants. Makes complete sense. ** YOu agree that they have organs harvesting and donations but no one donates?

**There is a huge trade in illegal organ trafficking around the world. Some really horrible stuff going on. ** Do you have any idea WHY there is a huge trade in it? Because no one donates! Duh! If people donated legally, there would be no illegal trade or very little.

Ambrosia, I didn't bother telling my students about how some Muslims see the issue. They were too busy trying to wrap their heads around the number of transplants by countries compared to Japan. And I am oh so sorry I am not up to date on kid donations. Funny, had it been in the news, I might have heard about it. Hence all the misinformation out there.

Sadly neither my hoken nor my license has a spot that allows me to state I want to donate.

Organ donating here is pathetic. My students did a presentation on this very topic last night and it is really, really sad how few people donate. Why? No reason. They thought it was "kimoii" and that perhaps they might recover so would need their organs. When I explained they are dead and no longer need them, they just didn't seem to get it. It isn't a religious thing - like Muslims - they just don't have the education. None of them had an organ donor card or had even seen one. I was at a hospital the other day and asked for one - they had no idea what I was asking for. When they finally figured it out, they had none.

The gist? I can see why this guy paid for one. Wrong? Indeed. However, the system here is wrong. No transplants for kids either!

I woul be very interested to know how many people who were privvy to that document actually evacuated their OWN families, just in case.

Would love to know that to - doubt we'll ever find out!

Cleo, what do you propose? Free for all and ruin the future for the younger people even more? Taxes will be raised, uni grads can't find a job, people aren't having kids... There is not enough people being born or in work to support the aging population. I shouldn't have to point that out to you. The country can't afford 24 hours bum wiping services for everyone over the age of 70 who "needs" it - personally, I think a lot are just lonely and would appreciate some company but this isn't the way to go about dealing with that problem.

Indeed, those who are unable to walk, look after themselves and have no money should get help. Those who can afford it should be paying for it. It is not different than the public propping up the welfare system. Those singles would have paid tax to support schools for kids they never had - and the free health care for the kids they never had. Those with the money shouldn't burden an already burdened country. We're paying through the nose for THEIR health care right now. Add this in? If they can afford it, they should pay. This wasn't part of the system of care afford when they were paying taxes, why spring this on the public now? Oh all times when they are raising taxes to cover the pension system. They're getting their pensions - I know I won't be!

I think you'll find most people say stuff like that about their spouses in Japan. You won't get many "My wife is the most beautiful woman in the world, let me show you her photo", or "My husband is just the best".

Which could explain why so many are in unhappy relationships/marriages.

The irony is that after years of being attacked for my distrust of Japanese media and govt, I finally tried to believe them as much as possible. The one good thing that has come out of this is that my fiercely patriotic wife now understands me when I talk about the media/govt/old Japan. Millions of cynics have been born.

I enjoy watching them eat humble pie. Sadly, I know far too many people who are still bleating on like sheep that the government here is good.

It isn't a fact - the agreements are very vague. Nothing unusual there though when dealing with Japan and the government.
