Non you're comparing Harper getting reelected to that of GWBush?! I think you need to relax a bit because there really aren't any comparisons. I'm no fan of Harper myself but he's not anyway the boogie man you're trying to make him out to be. You're surprised this "got out"? You make it should like Canada is china - or Japan - when it comes to the media. Canada has one of the freest presses in the world. Certainly not perfect but you seem rather paranoid.

You're shifting goalposts. You stated YOU moved to the area so no idea why you're now jabbering away about ancestral land. As I stated, if you were there before the base, by all means complain.

I don't think a date for them to leave was in writing so you really don't have any leg to stand on with regards to noise. And again, everyone is in agreeance that things shouldn't be falling off planes. You could save yourself the stress and move if it bothers you that much.

For those upset with the noise - who were there before the base - take it up with the Japanese government. They agree to the terms of the us military, they pretty much picked the areas... The military is just doing what they do. Besides, I'm under the impression they have no fly times. Any idea how rare those are for those who live on or near bases?!

Guru, if you were there before the base, by all means complain. But as pointed out, I doubt anyone complaining about the noise was there before the base.

If anyone is dillusional it is the person who knowingly moved to an area close to an airbase who then turns around and complains about the noise.

Indeed parts shouldn't be falling from planes. No one is disagreeing with you on that. We're disagreeing with your audacity to complain about the noise.

And 50km?! You're being a tad dramatic on that. If you don't lie the noise, move. Though expect to pay more as it is well known land is cheaper near runways.

How is this all that different from the ele kids here only being allowed to wear shorts in winter?! Ask anyone here and they'll tell you it makes the kids stronger.

Indeed horrific but based on "little emperor" syndrome china's got going on, I would take parenting advice from them with a grain of salt. Either too pushy or too spoilt.

Canadians are politically apathetic and then comparisons to Japan?! Is that a joke?! Suggesting Canadians don't strike us a joke - the post office went or strike recently, teachers seem to strike every few years... Canadians are pretty political and keep a tight leash on those in power. Having Americans and Brits commenting Canadian political appethy is comedy gold.

Export, who has been there longer? You or the base?! You can't move into the area knowing it is near a base and then turn around and complain about it. I also doubt the population was as dense as it was when the base was built.

Oh shocking. More j celebs not bothering to use protection. Wonderful role models. Does anyone in this country get married then have kids?!

Test them again at 70 and every two years after. Thing is, they'd prob put up a huge fuss and it wouldn't be passed. Yes, younger drivers also cause accidents but they pay more for insurance. Perhaps the rates need to be raised for the elderly?!

As for the ny taxi comment, how do they drive a manual?!

We obviously watch different news programs because the ones I havebeen watching have been warning for well over a week about falling snow. I'm pretty sure they all have but go on, argue it.

So Nigel are you suggesting that falling snow off roofs isn't a problem?! Are you saying there have been no warnings and the topic wasn't covered in the news?! Surely you can admit it has been in the news a lot - straight from jt actually. What exactly is your point besides arguing?

Perhaps you haven't been watching the news. Increased temps, more snow... Been warnings now everyday. Perhaps you should give it up?! How many deaths and rescues this week alone?!

Nigel, sorry but with all the weather warnings and snow warnings it has been pretty loud and clear that snow falling off roofs is a huge danger right now. As smith said, some of us were. Fought up understanding the issues and dangers. Heck, one would think others would know the same with all the warnings and comments about it. Head to the park or play in an area where there isn't danger of this happening. As for sitting inside, not at all. Those smart phones sure are handy when traveling, aren't they?

Failure to realize?! The news has been staring for over a week now how dangerous it is. By all means play outside but pick a place that is safe! I feel for the grandfather but come on! How many deaths and rescues have there been this week now?!

TWO and FIVE outside playing alone?! Wrong, wrong, wrong. More so when the TV news has been going on and on about the dangers of falling snow from roofs. Indeed an accident is an accident but a TWO year old outside alone?? Neglect. I am so sick and tired of reading reports like these. Yes, crappy parents/grandparents are everywhere, yes it happens in other countries but man, Japan has got to have one of the highest rates of child neglect deaths.

And I feel for the grandparents. They are going to have to live with this for the rest of their lives. Japan really, really needs to get some parenting classes for expecting parents and force them to attend. Better yet, have classes in junior/ high school (I did) abotu looking after kids. Long overdue.

tmarie. You must have never owned a Ford.

I guess that Tempo and van my parents owned weren't Fords... To be honest, my experience with fords is exactly why I will never, ever owe one or even consider driving one. My parents buy Korean and Japanese now after years of paying to fix their crappy American cars.

Must admit, I did like the Saturn but well, petty men and petty pride got in the way of probably the best car the US has ever produced.

One thing I've noticed about Japanese cyclists is that they just don't wait; safe or not

Not all. The guys who actually have decent bikes, are kitted in gear are pretty dam safe. It is the losers on the mamacheris that are not. The thing is, drivers hate "us" on the road because you have to go around us and complain about it. They are safe - most of them - and god knows how many people here try and scare the crap out of us for sport. Can't win. Can't ride on the sidewalk (ruins the bike and then we have to put up woth the people, the dogs..), nearly get run over by the drivers on the road...

Costs 3000 yen to send 100000. Can't you send more at the post office for the same price? Actually, I think you can send more. Takes longer but this really isn't great unless people need the money ASAP.
