But, I thought it was stable??? How does this happen? Snicker.
I question this. Was it "leaked" or will TEPCO let it out and into the ocean because they know they can? They haven't been fined or told to stop doing this crap so why not carry on and pretend it is out of their control?

How on earth was someone like that not kicked out of the building after the first few incidents?? They care more here about the rights of the problem than the victim.

7solance, no worries. They don't use English. It was a great publicity stunt, got their name in the news but the fact is, they are very Japanese, speaking Japanese and all this "outside the box" chat is nothing but a farce.

Bar owners in the UK balked at the non-smoking rule coming in years ago fearing they would lose customer. Actually business went up because non-smokers went out more.
I had a showdown battle at the Chinese place a few weeks ago. Went in and the place reeked of smoke. So I opened the window and quickly got told off for doing so - they other customers would get cold! I said the place stinks and is smokey. "There is no non-smoking section" I was told. " Fine. I will leave the window open and won't bother ever coming back here after tonight." (We were waiting for friends so were kind of stuck there). Why places can't understand that non-smokers don't want to be sitting in a haze of blue is beyond me. I couldn't believe they jumped on me for opening a window while looking the other way on the chain smokers.
I don't bother with smokey places anymore. If at a bar and the person lights up next to me, i move and make it very clear it is because of the smoke. Does that make me a cow? Perhaps but why should I have to sit next to someone who smokes and doesn't care about my health or the health of those around them.
Nothing makes me angrier than seeing mom and dad sucking them back in a car with their kids.

**I think without a doubt the quality of Japanese waitstaff is the best in the world. Customer service is taken very seriously in Japan, and if you don't satisfy the customer, there are many other places for them to go next time. In Japan we say, "Customer is God." When I visit America I think they must say, "Customer is dog." **
I would suggest the Japanese staff are the dogs - come when you yell for them or buzz them...

Excuse me but what DO YOU know about the situation with immigration in Europe ? If I'm correct, you're living in Japan and thus judging the situation far away from a secured land where immigration is under strict control. I'm suggesting you instead to come and experiment a living near the african-muslim communities over here before expressing a judgement on that matter. I just got back to Japan from living in Europe thanks very much. Where I worked in a predominating African Muslim area. I could easily turn it around and suggest "What do you know about Japan when YOU live in Europe. See how easy that is? You can try and excuse your racism and hate all you like but its is disgusting.

Net, I often do the paying and the change is handed to... my husband. Who then hands it to me with a look of bewilderment. If the waitress was an idiot and repeated everything back to him and when I ordered (happens often enough) he won't accept the change and wait for the person to realise who they need to pay - I enjoy the looks of embarrassment.
They do a decent job - how could they not when you are screaming or buzzing them when you want to order, when you want order, when you want the bill? They show up, take your order, put the food on the table (never to anyone). Pretty hard to mess up.

The population itself dropping isn't the problem - the problem is that there won't be enough money to prop up the old people. They need to deal with the pension age, pension payments and who they allow to collect - ie, stop allowing people who have never themselves paid a dime, to collect. I am more than happy to have less people here. However, it is the system in place that will fail.

And yet cafes, restaurants, bars all cater to these 20% by allowing them to smoke pretty much where ever they want, when they want. I think the only reason Starbucks does so well here IS because its non-smoking. It's not for their coffee! More placed need to embrace a smoking ban and watch the customers come!
And yes, raise the prices but we all know the ossans who run this country won't - they enjoy it far too much to care about the rest of us.

I've had numerous students complain about Uniqlo's new concept to hire first year students once they graduate. They complained that once the company does this, they'll all follow which means job hunting will start in 1st year, not 3rd. How about it starts once they have graduated??
Both rakuten and uniqlo make me laugh with their whole "we do English" concept. I know people who work at both companies and will fully admit that Japanese is the language and very few workers can hold a conversation in English let alone do business in English. Again, the dressing is more important that the material .

I saw that - it was very good and very true! I could relate to the character that was getting bullied by her sempai! A must watch for anyone thinking of working here!

Pathetic that in this day and age that is the fine. Don't allow them home games for a year if they can't behave. It would hurt the team and the owners but it is their job to deal with the situation. Ban those guilty of chanting racist garbage.

**In the report, the panel defines power harassment as any kind of behavior in which a senior person takes advantage of his or her position in the workplace to cause coworkers physical or psychological pain. **
Um, isn't Japan based on this? They just call it the kohai/sempai system.
Nicky, horrific stories. I once dealt with a crazy coworker (j female) who bullied the crap out of me AND through things at me. Then got on the phone with management and cried big crocodile tears and I got blamed. Those working with her now know the truth and would love to get rid of her - but everyone is scared she'll turn on them. Countless staff have left because of her. Thing is, she's now married to a manger so...
This is just another "try and make it look like we are doing something but in reality, will not" type thing. It is right up there with their goal to get women into the workforce and have them treated the same as men...

When you figure out why the women are not lining up, you might begin to understand. I guess you didn't bother to read all of my post, did you?
You cannot do that by pushing women hard toward working, delaying their dating experience, then dangling little carrots in front of them in the direction of coupling and baby making. BY pushing them to work harder? No one is pushing them to work harder. We're asking for fair working environments that pay like the boys do. We're asking that we don't have our contracts renewed if we get pregnant. We're asking for the opportunity to work AND gave kids which the way things are, is limited. I know many mothers back home who find it easier to work all day instead of stay home and go crazy with kids. Have you ever thought that many Japanese women may feel the same?
Even when they do, their husbands are not exactly ecstatic about having a working mother for a wife, not unless they have a mistress who actually has energy left for fun. I don't think you get to speak for all men (just like I can't for all women). Many men I know wish their wives would get off their butts and help contribute to the household finances.
Like heck! If he makes so much and you work too, hire a nanny! My point exactly. We DON'T make enough to survive off his wages alone if I would like to take the brats back home to see the family, help pay for their uni and have a house so they have a backyard. Heck, with the both of us working we still can't afford a house let alone a house AND a nanny.
The gov. could simply remove the forced retirement age to retain a lot of its skilled work force. Many people really dont want to retire or are not in an economic position to retire so being able to continue working would be good news for them and the economy combined. The def needs to be raised but I think you're wrong about people not wanting to retire. Many are counting down the days until they get to stop working. Not all but many. Japan has mentioned it and people started howling - the voting people so... nothing on that front. I think it needs to be raised until 70-75 if people are living until 90. Pretty much the same amount of retirement years as it was when it was first put at 60. 15 years or so to claim and then die. Thing is, people want to travel, see friends and then claim back more than they paid into it - or like the women claim when they didn't personally put a drop into it.
30,000+ people committing suicide every year doesn't help matters much either It would if they were over the age of 70... I kid, I kid...

Cash rewards for babies mean nothing if you don't even have someone to make a baby with!
Women who want kids have no problems finding donors.
Thing is, with the way they get treated in society, they see kids as a burden - and to be fair, they are the way it is done here. No freedom, lots of judgement from society and what they should be doing, losing ones job... If women didn't feel that kids took everything away from them that they worked for, they might give it a second thought. I'm a well educated women who probably would have sprogs now if I knew that a) my job and life wasn't in jeopardy because of the stigma attached to being a working mom - if I could get the daycare. Which is questionable. It seems my husband might make too much and others would get spots instead of me. Seems unfair that this is done via a lottery of such rules.

Unless they expect women to continue having babies into their seventies, which wouldn't surprise me.
Well we females are nothing but mere baby makers... Or at least, that is what some think.
