Well, to a certain extent. The Libyan forces loyal to Qaddafi do have air superiority as they are the only ones in the conflict with an air force. Fortunately for the rebels, their pilots have very poor aim. That is why the rebel forces have been asking for Western/Foreign air power.

AdamB,
"If the US or western countries went into Libya you would cry foul and if they dont you complain WHAT DO YOU WANT?"
Isn't that the truth. I think a lot of these people just want to have a poor excuse to piss and moan about the U.S.

LOL... Why were only Clinton's, and Obama's names used? Exactly what are they supposed to do?

There is absolutely no reason to put an /american face on this. Let France take the lead, seeing as how they already jumped the gun, and officially recognized the rebel government. NATO is very capable of handling a "No Fly Zone" contingency, and it can be done with the air power of other NATO countries besides the U.S.

When I was responding to the remark/statement by seaforte03 "US interventionism (meddling)" I was interpreting that to mean on a military level, and not on a business/economic level as you are referring to. In that regard, I agree with you.

Frenchy92 said: "US economy is so much dependent from China that I do not see them leaving a strategical platform there. But I think Japan should try to get it's independence, not only by counterbalancing US influence with Europe, but also by building it's own network of allies in the Asian region."
@Frenchy92: You have it part right. The U.S. economy, is dependent on China, but it is very much a mutual dependence, as the Chinese economy is dependent on the U.S. as well.
seaforte03 said: "The USA will continue to maintain presence in the oil poor east asia until it has milked Japan AND Taiwan dry (extortion for alleged protection from the evil China) - then it will move on to Africa. Africa is perfect for US interventionism (meddling) as the continent is politically fractured and unstable."
@seaforte03: There are a few things wrong with your post. How is it extortion, when China clearly states, that they reserve the option to take back Taiwan by force. And exactly what, and how is the U.S. milking Taiwan dry? As for U.S. interventionism (meddling) in Africa, you're going to need to narrow it down a bit. Egypt is on the continent of africa, as well as Libya, and the U.S. has yet to intervene there. As far as your countries in West, and Central pretty much (Black) Africa the U.S. will not touch that region with a 10 foot pole, given it's history of slavery and the raping of the continent that it is already an accessory to. Why do you think the U.S. did next to nothing to stop the slaughtering going on in Rwanda in the '90s, and has basically done nothing in Sudan as well. A little knowledge in history would help some of the posters that want to spew their anti U.S. rhetoric/propoganda.

China9000 said: "It would trigger an arms only if the US continues to insist on its global hegemon status to "protect allies" across the globe (much of it with money borrowed from China nonetheless). Japan can't match China, is anti nuke, and depends on trade with China in order to pull itself out of economic slump so it's unlikely they will even try. If US gives up then most likely these countries will simply ally with China."
You are pretty much reaching with your "blame USA" propoganda. As it has been evidenced numerous times, China is very provocative militarily, and they protect North Korea, one of their allis, just the same. That's pretty much the whole point of being an ally with some one, or some country. If you're not strong enough to handle your own business alone, then you ally up with someone as big, or bigger than your enemy. It's not like China's on any type of military buildup right? smh

Yes, that is the plane. I was just clarifying that it is a surveillance plane, as opposed to a spy plane. I have no doubt that the Chinese have/will incorporate the technology that they looted from this plane. :-)

apecNetworks said: "This situation is insane..... those 2 spy planes have probably incorporated the technology acquired from that downed US spy plane where a PRC pilot went down crashing into it. JSDF will increasingly face US military technology as the PRC becomes more assertive."
The U.S. plane that you were referring to was not a spy plane, but rather a surveillance plane, as clarified in this following paragraph on the incident by Wikipedia: "In April 2001 an aerial collision between a United States Navy EP-3E ARIES II, a signals reconnaissance version of the P-3C, and a People's Liberation Army Navy J-8IIM fighter resulted in an international incident between the United States and China. The J-8IIM crashed and its pilot was killed. The EP-3 came close to becoming uncontrollable, at one point sustaining a near inverted roll, but was able to make an emergency landing on Hainan. The crew and plane were subsequently detained by Chinese authorities, accused of "killing the Chinese pilot".
After several days, the crew was repatriated separately to the United States while the aircraft remained in China, reported taken apart for research on American technology. Although the crew attempted to destroy as much classified material, hardware and software on the aircraft prior to the emergency landing, there is little doubt that the EP-3 was exploited by Chinese intelligence services. An American team was later permitted to enter Hainan in order to dismantle the aircraft, which was subsequently airlifted back to United States for reassembly and repair."
A spy plane would be more along the lines of the retired SR-71 Blackbird, or the current U2 spy plane currently in service.
