    and they call this news?

It's a story about a crime in the crime section. I think that qualifies as news.

I've always found it funny how "I/me/we/us" gets translated into "it" with machine translation.

It doesn't get mistranslated - the subject is usually cut in Japanese and computer programs just add "it" because something needs to be there.

I should do it in penmanship which would embarrass a nine-year-old

I don't know about that, this guy has made English more efficient by doing away with formalities such as grammar. He should be applauded for having the mental capacity to do so far beyond anything we can comprehend or imagine.

I vote him for prime minister - clearly he favours a "no-nonsense" approach to things!

Show me a link and that he spent time among the victims

You didn't say that before - you said "in the disaster zone" and I pointed out that Kan was in Fukushima on March 12th.

If I recall, he was in the disaster zone of their big quake in Sichuan within a few days

And Kan was in Fukushima on March 12th. What is your point?

I still don't understand why they built the nuclear plant like 2 meters from the ocean

Sea water is used to make the steam that powers the turbines. It's also used to keep the whole thing cool. You need a LOT of water for a BWR and that's why anywhere you look in the world, they are on the shore.

Yongyang - I think part of the problem is that they are unable to physically reach the fuel rods right now... I completely agree (like everyone would I imagine) that moving them is the sane thing to do, but I don't think the situation allows for that right now.

Bury it an localize it. Even TEPCO knows it HAS to cover it.

Burying it is still a last resort when there is absolutely no options remaining. It's not ideal, will create additional problems, and that is why it hasn't been undertaken thus far - it's also why no experts are suggesting it at this point in time.

What the iPhone needs is a good strong battery

Yeah, my iPhone 4 dies almost daily... the battery is shocking if you have the cheek to actually use the damned thing!

(and I'm not talking Angry Birds here, which btw is free on Android)

It's only free because it is ad-supported on android...

where can all those iPhone apps be found

iTunes. Just run a search for what you are looking for. (or google the app name with "itunes" and you will see a link to it that will automatically open iTunes for you)

That's why those silly face-masks are still sold. I know some people who wear them every day and still get ill many times a year with colds etc

Aren't the face masks for allergies though?

On a different note, what is it with this sort of news and Meguro? Seems like the only time I hear about that ward is when an Actor, Model or Politician is having a hard time of sorts. Ideas??

There are a lot of wealthy people living in Meguro-Ku. Guess it is law of averages at work.

May have just been the straw that broke the camels back and we have no idea what other problems (mentally, socially or otherwise) that she may have had. Who are you to judge her?

Fadamor - based on the last line, it may well have been depression... it can cause people to do truly horrific things as they can only feel negative about themselves.

I wonder how many native English speakers can reach that level...

Read 残念な人;英語勉強方 if you are interested in this - the authors of that book got native speakers from a load of different professions, ages and backgrounds to try the test (including people who had finished graduate school etc.) and not one of them got a perfect 100% score.

Oh, and one other point - why is Japan constantly smashed by the rest of Asia in TOEIC scores? What is going so wrong here in comparison to neighbouring countries?
