but TOEIC is useless for conversing in English. I know a High school (Japanese) English teacher who has a toeic score in the late 800s, but can not put together a sentence in conversation. Its the same with the JLPT - just because you can read up to JLPT1 doesn't mean that you can speak Japanese. 2 completely different sides of the same coin.

Depends on how it is backed up really. The same could be said of the JLPT, but it motivated me to really brush up on my grammatical knowledge in Japanese and helped a lot in that aspect. Of course, learning to speak is by far the best way to learn any language (as with almost any skill, application >>> studying)

TOEIC could be a really useful motivator for students to raise their overall levels of English understanding, but that alone isn't enough and people need to realise that.

After all, the vast majority of his victims are his fellow Mulsims.

I was thinking more along political lines, but this is also true...

The quick burial at sea was a ham-fisted attempt to appease the muslim world

You think? I would say it is more likely that no islamic country wanted the body!

What right does Obama have to order his troops to invade another country, kill and dump the body at sea?

After illegal occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq, did you honestly believe America would care about something like this that results in "geronimo" being killed?

Dubya has stated in the past that he thinks gay people should have fewer rights than others. Fortunately, such views are becoming rarer in civilised societies.

Dubya's probably so far in the closet that he has adventures in Narnia. It's a common source of/reason for gay-bashing...

Any of these idiots realize the consequences if their act is successful? these morons will be the first on ELECTRIC train to home, to unlock their ELECTRIC autolock, to take ELECTRIC elevator to their second floor, turn on their TV that guess what... yeah, you got it, it runs on ELECTRICITY, than take a bath, that uses same ELECTRICITY to warm up, then they will go to their PC, that runs on ELECTRICITY and start posting antinuclear gibberish.

Do anti-nuclear protesters dream of electric sheep?

How come these demonstrations were never held before the March 11 disaster?

Ignorance is bliss. You flick a switch and the light turns on... no need to ponder the source of the electricity until there is a problem.

I do find it hillarious that Japan has had nuclear power for 40 years and nobody has really mounted a protest until now.

They are after the fantasy, but when reality bites, they act like whining little boys whose toy broke. Sick of it.

Maybe that is true, but it still doesn't justify blocking any access to children without reason...

Aren't you supposed to wait a couple of weeks or months before you buy something new, like ipad or ps1, 2 or 3...

It already has been out for a few weeks in other areas.

So, I guess we are going to see a rush of abductions as mothers realise that this is their last chance to abduct.

It's a good job flights to Japan are relatively cheap right now then...

It's not even a STEP in the right direction. We can talk about it till the cows come home

Did you even read the article or just post?

The government is expected to instruct the justice and foreign ministries to develop necessary bills, with the aim of approving the plan to have Japan join the 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction during a regular Diet session next year, the sources said

How on earth is planning to have it all done and signed by next year NOT a step in the right direction???

Will Sony be held accountable for this?

I don't think "being hacked" is an accountable offense in any country... It's likely their security wasn't as good as they thought it was, but I am not sure if they actually did anything wrong here and it will probably be almost impossible to prove if they intentionally used inferior protocols...

‘‘As he is running the party only with people close to him, I believe he is not capable of listening to the voices of the people,’’ Hatoyama said at the meeting.

Love Hatoyama's style... quit when the pressure gets too much, then point fingers at the failings of others.

    What a coward.
