Good thing they placed her on a pedastal, otherwise she would look like a child next to the rest of those giraffs.

I'd only want to be seen in public with numbers 7 and 8. The rest just look like they are trying too hard. This is not the models fault though, I blame the designers.

Monkeys,
No doubt, I thought the same thing when her "Noise Wagon" passed me by in Shibuya. I've heard a lot of rolling political advertisements in my time, but hers has been the loudest by far. Definitely in the hearing-damage range.

It's Shibuya, enough said. Dressing like a clown is pretty much the norm for a lot of people in Shibuya. (And the worse part of all is that clowns terrify me...)

I wonder of the cops identified themselves as policemen?
Obvioulsy, the guy they stopped has a few loose screws, but I also wonder if he knew he was attacking two cops. Or quite possibly, in his mind, he may have been "defending himself" from two strangers.

I am not a smoker, but I agree that it should be left up to the individual restuarant and bar owners if they allow smoking or not. I like the idea of a flat out ban on smoking in public places, but private businesses should be left to make that decision on their own.
I believe there is a definite market for snoke-free bars and restaurants, just as there is a market for ones that allow smoking. (I would just not be giving my business to those that allow smoking) Let the market decide what the consumers really want when it comes to businesses. But as I said, (and to stay on topic) I do fully support a ban on smoking in public places.

It really amuses me when people like Kokubo-san (and most all other snowboarders) are said to be "free spirits" that are only trying to "express themselves". Yet, the are all doing it in the the same exact manner.
How much of a "rebel" are you if you are part of a herd?
I'm glad he face planted it. Once he has some time to think about it (and when he knows a camera is not on him, so he won't be trying to look/act cool) I think the realization will set in that HE BLEW IT AT THE OLYMPICS.
This will hopefully cause him to pause and reflect and redouble his efforts to come back next time to win the gold.
Humble pie is good for you.

Cigarettes are foul.
I cannot image for a minute that when a person smokes for the first time the horrible taste and coughing and choking that result do not give them at least some sort of clue that the things are bad for you.
People must take responsibility for their actions.

I once had a problem with a weirdo attacking and groping women in my neighborhood, as well as peeping into windows at night (including my own). I even caught the guy once peeping into my place, staring at my wife, and I grabbed him and gave him a wailing before letting him go.
When I asked the local Japanese police if they could do anything about it, they said "No, not unless we catch him in the act". I then asked them when they were planning their stakeout because I could let them know some prime spots that were sure to allow them to observe the behavior. (It was that common) They responded by saying that they were too busy to take the time to actually look for the guy. (Reading between the lines it meant that they didn't care what happened to a few gaijin)
In retrospect I think that I was lucky that lunatic gropper/peeping tom did not press charges against ME for kicking the shit out of him....

How on Earth can this be considered Feature News? A celebrity gossip column would be a better fit.

Don't judge a book by its reviewer.
I bought the Kindle version of this book yesterday and have not been able to put it down since.
It's raw, self-absorbed, and sterotypical in a sense, but it's also VERY well written. The author has a very effective command of the language and as a result the book is utterly engrossing. (At least to me)
I've been in Japan for 10'ish years myself, and can relate to a lot of what the author writes about. (Not so much the not having any money part, but more on the interpersonal relations in Japan)
This is one of the more entertaining books I have read in some time.

Okinawas first order of business: Complain about the US Military until they all get sent back to America.
Okinawas second order of business: Complain about how sending all the Americans home ruined their businesses.
I agree that Okinawa does bear an disproportionate burden, BUT, I also hate it when they cite crime statistics of U.S. personnel, but always "forget" to compare those same statistics to the crimes commited by Okinawans themselves.
Messy situation all around. The U.S. has been empire building for far too long, and in the end the only thing that will stop it is when America can no longer afford to police the world. The U.S. is going down the same road that ruined Rome.

Here's an idea that could save Japan untold amounts of energy:
Move all the clocks ahead by 4 hours. For a country that starts work late (9:00-10:00) it's pretty funny that the sun starts coming up at 5:00. Thats at least 4 hours of wasted daylight, AND an extra 4 hours that they have to light up places like Ginza, Shibuya, and Shinjuku each night.
Think of the energy savings and resulted CO2 emissions reductions if those lights were turned off for 4 more hours each day.
