Japan has cars 13 years old??
I'm bummed - my old clunker is 12 years old - and it always seems like it's the oldest car on the road! Of course, the fact that it is covered with dents and scratches doesn't help.

JeffLee - greetings fellow Canuck - it's not a Japan issue, it's an AC issue - the cancelled the Tokyo - Toronto direct flight and have pulled back on other routes as well. The T/T flight was supposed to be back up in the Spring but I don't think it is yet.

Dude, free speech. If 2-channel is so overrun with slimy, salacious untruths then why is it so popular, and why do people believe it? And what thought police are going to be patrolling it?

Japanese police, well done.
Now perhaps you can focus on murderers.

Hey nitwits, the surcharges and additional costs are applicable to any ticket - not just the 7,000 yen tickets. Hard to see this as anything other than a great deal.

Beelzebub - are you reading with your eyes closed again? The only mention in the article to the "lucrative" foregery business is to a gang of 4 that made 12MY in 9 months - split equally, not exactly a bonanza.
Methinks they aren't flying back to China on private jets.

I should also add, though, that I pretty much agreed with the rest of the article and thought it a good, well written summary of the current issues aftecting the ahem management class (and judging by the rest of the posts here it seems like we're the minority on JT.)
The reality is that businesses grow and shrink; employees are hired and, at times, must be fired as the market changes. And contrary to what many of the posters on this site may think, it is entirely possible to do that in a way which the affected employees will appreciate and understand.

Totally, totally disagree with not firing on a Friday and completely disagree with "not before a holiday". In this market, people need to know early and clearly that they are losing their job, not after they return from a pricey vacation.

Many people on this posting need to take a good whiff of fresh air. Sure, marriage is a big deal but I know plenty of folks in there 30s - and 40s - who are single and happy. There is certainly plenty of society pressure around this issue but as some others have mentioned it is by no means the only issue. Like it or not - and I suspect many Japanese men don't - the culture is changing.

mindovermatter -
Uh... what? Sorry, you're missing the point. What is ILLEGAL is what is AGAINST THE LAW for that country. Happy to hear you talk about RICO, blah blah blah, but it is totally, completely, and utterly irrelevant to Japan.
In Japan, and I repeat myself, it is not illegal to be a self-identified member of a crime syndicate (see post above.)
But thank you so much for helping educate poor, silly Japan about the clearly far superior law enforcement in the US. How is that crime rate treating you, by the way?
