Without sounding like Dr. Phil, an equally compelling part of this phenomenon for me is the parents - where are they, what are thinking, why aren't they trying to help?

magpie - indeed, there were other reasons. Three months ago a crow with a single white feather, clutching a tarot card landed on her balcony.
So of course it's clear why she died alone...

While I appreciate the efforts of JT to add a business dimension to the site, I would highly recommend getting a writer that can form a coherent thesis and advance said thesis via facts and analysis. The above essay is a nightmare of dropped thoughts, missed points and inuendo.
And a quick tip to the writer: Dude, so not a good idea to reference gossip and rumours when discussing the possible bankruptcy of a very large, publicly traded company.

I think Kwatt is referring to "small ball", a pretty common thing in MLB that focuses on small victories (bunts, singles, tight fielding) to advance the scoring.
So before this becomes some pseudo-social intellectual digression on Japan playing as a team and Western teams playing as individuals, let's just say that this is by no means a strategy that goes unused by the majors in the US...

Here's the reality - it is not illegal to be a self-identified member of a crime syndicate. It is, naturally, illegal to be engaged in the various ways these syndicates fund themselves. But... if we're talking about yakuza members who are not in jail, what we are really talking about is a self-identified member of a crime syndicate who has not been found guilty of committing any crimes. And say what you will, I don't find it odd at all that saying you are part of a group is not illegal.
So to me the real question is: are people in jail eligible to receive the check?

Lettermen used to be on MSNBC in Japan (I think one show a week, on Saturday?) but that was years ago on Minato cable, which I don't have anymore.
Anyone else know if if Letterman is available in Japan?

tmarie, with all due respect, in the vast majority of enjokosai and related cases, the guys know the girls age since they are specifically seeking girls <18. Pretty simple stuff, yo. If anything, more girls are lying about being younger than older.

So, unlike you I don't blame the mothers, or the girls, but - for some strange reason - the older guys who are seeking illegal sexual activity with a teen.
If anything, I would suggest that far more girls lie about being YOUNGER than older - the market for freelance paid sex is, sadly, much larger for that age group.

The real question is, is this dude just really losing it or have people (presumably senior people in politics and business) just been kinda shuffling their feet and looking away from all the gaffes these last, oh, 50 years or so?
