Last spring even Hiroshima - the city of peace - told ZImbabwe it could not allow for any water purification materials to come from Hiroshima due to what was cited as the "official position regarding ZImbabwe since 1997". We are being murdered by our neighbor yet the world is content to blame the person they have been trying to punish for their Congo losses. I could never understand why the holocaust was not prevented but I am starting to get it now.

Bailout isn't free money. The US government couldn't ask for a better investment than a bailout loan. And Japanese auto makers have so much support - criminal support, I won't even bother going into it. Taxpayers have absolutely no right to discuss how the tx money is used. You pay under duress so how could you ever feel entitled to saying something?

    borscht:

From an industry insider: The US auto maker stood no chance with the non-gas powered vehicles. The very same people giving money to the auto makers for alternative energy vehicles were in the pockets of the oil lobby. And no amount of progress in R&D in the auto industry was allowed. Government regulators have shot down every advancement in the field. Obama's right in realising that the auto companies carry some people that would have to go now - they're also the people 'planted' by the oil barons to keep the auto makers in check.

Oh pleeez... They'll now book full repair and recall costs for every unit while they get back less than a third. That's lower taxes and money funnelled into some account in gondwanaland.

elbidamexicano: Appreciate your 'concern' for us but unfortunately the mess is not Mugabe made. Look south of our border. I have evidence in the form of written documents dated 2006 pressuring the international community not to allow any water purification materials to Zimbabwe. Go to Chugoku Shimbun's archive about Zimbabwe's water crises and you'll come across a 1997-2000 appeal for water system immediate assistance - the white Zimbabweans had burnt or stolen all blue prints of piping grids beginning in 1980! Mugabe's being made the scape goat for the international community's denial that South Africa was destablizing Zimbabwe from late 1996 thru 1997. Mugabe will die some day... who will they blame when civil war breaks out? I predicted this calamity would happen years ago and I am now certain that Zimbabwe's real crisis are only beginning. Cholera is nothing at the moment - typhoid and anthrax are coming. It's the usual South African MO.

Sarge: The UAW have no idea what the Big Three are up against. Toyota has plant and equipment that's listed under book value yet its amortized - meaning? They have phantom fulltime factory workers - yet most of the workers are temps. Corporate tax is 'discussed' in smokey bars - the Big Three pay out the yazoo.... need I say more? The UAW are a crankshaft short of a drive through burgher joint.

What the... read the offer Goldman. Panasonic is telling you that Sanyo is worth much less than they're offering. And you reject it? Wow. Good luck if you're offered more than 120.

SO India really gets attacked and what happens? SO many people said India has brass cobblers and the US and other navies don't. However the rational and I dare say informed said the piracy scourge is a bigger issue than meets the eye. Of course - bdiego!!! - the pirates would shoot at an approaching vessel. That's what they do! Ohhh but not for the Indian navy. That's not part of the piracy scenario, no sir. Shoot at the great ruler of the 7 seas? Now what? I hear some brass medals jingling back to the quarter master.

Hear this. India didn't sink a pirate ship after all. They sank a Thai trawler and 14 crew are missing.

Madverts Yes I did and if you'd read my post that's exactly what I'm saying - again! I have been on both sides of the situation in Zimbabwe since 1980 - the Joshua Nkomo/Tiny Rowland coup attempt: Entumbane, Conomara, Nijo Farms... the South African coup plot that ran from 1983 - 1987 the Standard Bank coup (your current problem sponsored by Mandela and his far eastern friends (2 men now out of power)... The Zimbabwe side included the socialsts (ZCTU and University of Zimbabwe professors) Carter, Annan, Machel - who's first husband was killed by Pretoria and met her current husband during talks to settle that murder... - are nuts to believe Zimbabweans have such short memories to forget what they have been involved with. Regardless of your warped Rhodie sense Mugabe is the victim.

Here's why I'd tell them to stay out of Zimbabwe: Carter - two years before the attack on Zimbabwe began Mr Carter insulted the government of Zimbabwe for asking the US to assist against South Africa's destabilization of Zimbabwe - sending guerillas to attack Zimbabwe Annan - he worked for the same people who attacked Zimbabwe Machel - her husband is one of the main architects of the attack

Since when does a change in Washington mean an administration that consists only of people that have never worked in any field that a government is responsible for? Yet this is what anti-Obama people keep implying. If so then Obama himself would not be able to be part of his own administration!

13 years ago I got a request from a Hiroshima based auto maker - their ship had been threatened by pirates near Cyprus - they wanted me to study piracy and see if I could make a report. I had no idea where to begin but once I started what a shock I got. There was virtually no seafaring country on earth that had any form of interest in tackling the crime - many countries simply said, "Look the boats are flagged in some faraway Banana Island... besides the boat owners are a cartel that is so secretive try talking to them... I did and I found it easier to get a sober date with Miss Hilton than to just get a ball park figure of where their ships were flagged. Folks remember the big oil spill off Spain about six years ago? Nobody seemed to own the ship. One of the stunning revelations I made was that ships that had sunk in storms twenty years before were in fact very much afloat and carrying cargo we'd rather not know about.

So to this current problem, who pays the navy that patrols the seas? If we engage the pirates once they've boarded, are we prepared to pay for any loss of crew lives? And lets remember that the companies that supply the crews are rubbing their hands hoping for a mishap - they carry whopping huge insurance contracts for each crew member. Life can be funny.

Should the pirates scuttle a ship what about oil slicks and chemical pollution?

The final little secret I discovered was that shipping companies routinely pulled pirate bluffs for the insurance. Just imagine if a Saudi prince decided to 'rob' his rich uncle by staging a piracy...

    Food for thought.
