Both sides of this conflict have much to answer for.

    Again, I ask:

Why isn't there any criticism towards Hamas?

Is it because we are to expect much more of Israel and that it's "understood" that Hamas can't help itself but fire rockets into Israel?

    Good catch Unagidon.

"Toyota Motor Corp is secretly developing a vehicle that will be powered **solely **by solar energy..."

"electric vehicle that will get **some **of its power from solar cells equipped on the vehicle".

The catch is that they are hoping to develop a car that runs purely on solar energy, but the one they are working on now only partially runs on solar energy.

I see this as a way for Israel to bring in a 3rd party to see who will break the next cease fire.

They are so adamant that Palestine continues to break the ceasefires, that this time they want somebody there to see with their own eyes.

Nobody has any reason to disbelieve them, unless they have extreme bias.

Hamas has been firing rockets daily into Israel, however these attacks are rarely deadly.

Ok, but they are still firing rockets. Israel's response may be considered overkill. Maybe Israel is trying to stop the rocket firing with swiftness. Who knows. Anyways, a ceasefire is a ceasefire. If one side breaks that, then all bets are off until another agreement can be made. It's been like this for years.

What I don't understand is why Israel usually always gets the bulk of criticism.

Would someone be able to give an unbiased explanation as why that is?

    Exciting discussion!

All religion aside, Israel has the right to defend itself. If Palestine agrees to a cease fire, then turns around and breaks that cease fire, the word of Palestine is no good.

The same can be said the other way around.

Whoever Gov Blagojevich was going to appoint was going to be tainted. While I don't agree with the whole issue of race being brought into the ordeal, I guess it was inevitable.

With an absence of African-Americans in the Senate, no one in his or her right mind would vote not to seat him.

I would hope that people would make decisions based on character, experience, and merit, not just because there aren't any African-Americans in the US senate. Hopefully that is the case.

“There are no African-Americans in the Senate, and I don’t think that anyone—any U.S. senator, who’s sitting in the Senate, right now, wants to go on record to deny one African-American for being seated in the U.S. Senate,” said Rush, who defeated Obama in a 2000 Democratic congressional primary.

Even bringing up the whole race issue makes it worse, and Rep Rush isn't doing anybody any favors by making threats.

This whole thing stinks of appeasement. It's like Gov Blagojevich is asking "Am I cool now?"

Every administration has a scandal, and the new one hasn't even begun yet and there's a scandal.

So let's cut through all the cat and mouse.

Did Blagojevich have talks with Obama?

Probably, Obama was the Senator of the state.

    Second question:

Does anybody care that Obama or his staff is guilty of corruption?

    The short answer is no.

    Should the Americans be concerned?

Of course. If someone who is in a position of respect is being dishonest, the Americans have a right to know. The majority, after all, chose Obama. The minority will of course always find issue.

Christians in Japan of the 15th/16th centuries, especially the Catholics, are directly related to this country closing its borders and expelling all communication with the outside world, which absolutely led to narrow-mindedness and suspicion of foreigners we still see today in Japan.

They are only related by what happened in between the two, that being the reaction of the government of the time. You can't isolate one reason for the current narrow-mindedness and suspicion of foreigners by Japanese, which is partly or mostly their fault because they don't make an effort to open their mind.

Similarities between Shintoism and Judaism are likely to be coincidences

Ah so, I thought so too. Then I did a little bit of leg work, and found in that article that the similarities go far beyond just outward appearances like a 6 pointed star. There are some Shinto rites and practices that anybody who has been to Sunday school would swear they came right out of the Old Testament.

I am above all, a skeptic, but there was so much evidence in that paper that I'm convinced that a remnant of ancient Israel colonized Japan.

    realist-

I know of those similarities too and it sparked an interest.
I found this scholarly paper on the net done by an exchange student in Japan a few years ago that depicted some of what the Christians went through and what this Japan Today article is mentioning.

oo, this discussion is getting heated.

I didn't know that Aso was a Christian. Keeping that information out of politics is probably the best thing to do.

I've been to a few of the sites where persecution of the Jesuit followers occurred. It's pretty humbling.

Now to get back to the hot topic

Christians hop up and down and get all upset at agnostics

That's an overtly generalized statement, it may be good to go further and express that most people when they feel threatened with some of their core beliefs would get upset, Christians and agnostics included.

Moderator: Readers, please stay on topic, which is about the Christian martyrs in Japan.

I wasn't aware that there was a Thanks giving day celebrated in Japan.

At least it's not a turkey or a mashed potato donut.

Some people might ask for a rum donut without the donut.
