It sounds like the Greek justice system works better than say Japan's doesn't it?

Great game, of course I was pulling for team USA but the Canadians deserved to win their "national" sport. Thanks Canada for a great winter olympics. As an aside a friend of mine was in Whistler for the first week of competition and had nothing but nice things to say about the people of BC.

They all skated well and the end result is correct Mao had a couple of small deductions that put her behind Kim. I still prefer Mao's skating style but Kim fairly won this. I was happy to see that all three athletes were good sports and hugged etc. before the ceremony.

ptolemy: Refer to my post above the government doesn't give a damn about 39 deaths or even 83,000 they only care about grandstanding and getting re-elected. Toyota will fix the problem and recover from this. The victims families will sue and recover substantial damages and that will be the end of it. By the way when that happens and people shop cars on merit you'll find that the American makers at least Buick, Cadillac and Ford compete quite well. Again people will buy on the merits of the car not this over blown Toyota witch hunt.

The Toyota inquest is merely a grandstanding opportunity for incompetent US politicians. Most of these vehicles were built in the US and hurting Toyota hurts US workers. Now of course the American populace is as a whole too stupid to grasp that. So these government guys get to look like they're "holding a big company responsible" and even better a "foreign" company although as I just said most of these cars were produced in the US. Toyota has a problem and they're working on fixing it. People have died but the actual incidence of problems doesn't even come near 1% of the cars produced. The hearings are all about "well we may not be able to reform healthcare but we're doing something about those death trap foreign cars" At the end of the day it's a TV circus for the sheeple. A little disclaimer, I do own Ford stock but I am not revelling in Toyota's problems, again there are American jobs on the line.

I'm guessing people would rather focus on something positive rather than the media pounding of a national icon.

Mao is beautiful and what makes me enjoy her skating is that she seems to be having a good time.

LoveUSA: Yeah Apollo Ohno's name should ring a bell for the fact that he is poised to surpass Bonnie Blair's medal record. He won the 1500 meter beating two Koreans who knocked each other out of the competition on Saturday. He's a physical (read contact) skater and so is the Korean team that's why there's a match. I think Japan should be happy with a 2,3 finish most likely they just don't like losing to Korea.

Toyota wanted so badly to be bigger than GM that they cut corners. Toyota's reputation for quality is a legacy more than a current reality. By the way people are gunning for Toyota, that's what happens when you're number one.

I teach English lessons one to one on the side. I am first and foremost a businessman and teach business English to people who deal with business transactions in English or will be posted in an English speaking country. Models and college degrees are all well and good but my students are getting a much more applicable curriculum than if they were being taught by some fresh out of college wanker here to get drunk and pick up girls. By the way I do not have a teaching degree but I do have many years of business and negotiation experience that are far better than a canned curriculum from a school like Gaba. I wish Mr. Rogers well in his endeavor and think that many of the Eikiwa haters on this site really are going too far in judging this man you really know nothing about.

tmarie: People are buying Ford products and they're beating mighty Toyota's products in comparison tests. Toyota has grown complacent and arrogant they need to get back to what made them successful in the first place.

stirfry: the gas pedals in the US were made in the US but that doesn't matter. The flaw is in the design of the part and that is dictated to suppliers by Toyota. This is not a problem that can be blamed on the suppliers, Chinese, Japanese, or American.

This is a panic on a scale much bigger then Audi's "unintended accelleration" mess in the 80's. That almost killed Audi in North America and it took them years to recover. I would put this on a par with or maybe worse than the Ford Explorer rollovers of the 90's. Not only will Toyota spend billions on the recalls but they will likely face lawsuits as well. Toyota will survive but if I were holding stock I'd dump it. Toyota will be paying for this for the next 2-5 years.

"I don't quit" but man we wish you would. How about quit spending money on "golden fleece" projects that don't create jobs. How about quit attacking the banks and causing the stock market to fall. How about quit pushing a healthcare agenda that doesn't achieve universal coverage but lines the pockets of the insurance industry. Ah hell, just quit and go back to Chicago it'll be less of a hassle for you and better for America.
