Funny, I have a Persian friend who constantly tells me that the US overblowing of the hostage crisis solidified the power of the hardliners in post revolution power. Had we sought out and supported moderates things could be much different between the west and Iran and for the poeple of Iran as well.

Foolishness, he was observing the local custom. American's shake hands and Japanese bow. I'm not a fan of the Obama administration buit seriously if the opposition has only these sorts of things to jump on they will be the opposition for the forseeable future. Idiots!

If he were a Chinese citizen he would have been arrested, do you suppose he understood the irony?

Uh, bicycles aren't really that flammable as in only the tires and the seats are combustible. I bet it was a drunk punk who thought this would be a funny stunt.

ronaldk: Who cares how many women get pregnant from rape and incest, one is too many and certainly one is too many to order to deliver the child of the guy who violated her.

Gee you think? I would warn people to avoid college and student debt and pick up a trade they can apply when we start bartering for all good services again.

As usual special interests causing flawed legislation. It doesn't matter if it's the right or left everything can be blamed on special inetrest groups. By the way are there any pro-lifers who have a standing agreement to feed, clothe and educate every unwanted baby they "save" ? Thought not.....

Task number 1 would be proving that the US is still relevant and a better partner than China (well that's not the line to the Chinese, more other nations) Yep, basically his task is insurmountable.... next.

Good for them a little entrepeneurial spirit and they've got a success on their hands. That said, my wife would never have opted for one of these back in the day "talking about makeup and clothes" would probably stimulate her to a homocide.

The people who are conerned with Japan's "whitewashing" of history might be interested to know that the average highscool kid knows zero about history either reality or the whitewashed version. Aorund the world kids are ignoarant about world history. Without knowledge of the past we are doomed to keep repeating the same mistakes.

Granted his face is obscured in this photo but I'll agree with others that he doesn't look much like the photos that were circulated. It will be interesting if we ever find out what happened or if he merely confesses to the crime.

The aging population excuse for Japan's stagnation is completely wrong. The oldsters in Japan are spending money while young families can't afford to. In the US young families can't afford to spend either and our birthrate is predominently growing amongst the poor. Nice try though. All this lost decade stuff is crap too, it's called the economic cycle of development. The US and Japan are already past their glory days. China's cycle will be even faster that's how it works. 10 years from now people will be talking about China's lost decade and someone else like Vietnam will be on an even quicker up and down cycle, it's inevitable.
