JohnBecker: In therory the US is a representative democracy the same as Japan, all of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, etc. the question is who those democracies truly represent. My point was as screwed up as Japan's 1 party rule is the two party rule of the states or most European…
I would say whether Japan secretly paid money or not they should be happy they got Okinawa back after the war. It certainly didn't work out that way for Sakhalin, Korea, Manchuria or Taiwan. That's what happens when you lose a war, you lose your empire.
My wife's aunt knows him fairly well and as I understand it he should be more dynamic than Fukuda was. With all the rants about xenophobic, son of a war criminal etc. you'd think all the posters above actually had democracy or good governance in their home countries, I bet…
Nerzghul, the argument about the ICJ being swayed by Japan's money is old and tired. The Koreans trot this out whenever there is a dispute with anyone "oh we're weak, we've been victimized" ad nauseum. Korea is no longer a poor oppressed nation. They diminish their great accomplishments by constantly…
I'm waiting for the follow up, what is China's response? My guess is China will not respond at all. If they do respond they can always claim they just looked at a map that wasn't printed in Korea since the rest of the world calls it the Sea of Japan.
I will say it again Russia has absolutely no credibility on anything given the history of the Soviet Union. During and after WWII they "liberated" a lot of countries to build their empire. I'm sure Stalin and Putin could have a drink together and share their thoughts on Russian expansionism.
The glittering genralities and soraing rhetoric are really getting boring. Obama pretty much promised a chicken in every pot which he has no way to pay for. I'm still curious what his latest definition of middle class is.
sabiwabi, sorry I didn't read the part about Japan being able to defend themselves. On that we agree but I said most Japanese prefer not having to do it for themselves. If the will was there the US wouldn't need to be here. The problem goes more to the world…
sabiwabi, do you really need to ask? How about China and North Korea. A defenseless Japan would invite former rivals to challenge her territory and very existance.

I look the best with a beer especially shirtless. I can prove that I am a true beer drinker unlike Kitajima who is obviously to fit.
