Cleo, I agree with abromofo, you are thinking of this in absolutes without nuance. I'll state again that personal choices are just that. In my house we buy our meat and fish from local sources and we don't consume dairy as both my children are allergic. Do I think these choices are better for the planet or urge others to do the same? No, I don't care it's simply how we choose to live our lives. I agree with you that mass farming of animals (if you look into chickens it's the worst) is appalling. However I don't think meat consumption is the issue it's where you get your meat and whether your willing to pay more for meat that comes from animals that are well treated.

It's a load of crap on so many levels. This is not national health insurance nor will there even be a public plan. All this will be is a mandate for coverage from private carriers. In other words health insurance will not be less expensive, the government will just be paying money for the poor to private insurance companies. Why do you think the insurance companies are on board? It's because they have nothing but upside here, more customers and no additional restrictions. To hell with both the democrats and republicans. The democrats caved to the insurance lobbyists and the republicans refuse a public option that would compete with private insurers. This changes nothing for the average middle class person who has health insurance and the poor already had medicaid. What are we doing but spending more money we don't have.

It's well known that Kim Jong Il is not only star struck but wants the prestige of a visit from a sitting president. In Clinton he got 1.75 of those 2 things. He was visited by a guy who is as much a celebrity as a former president and while not a sitting president still a very influential former president. I'm not sure what else we had to give away to get their release but seeing Clinton on the world stage in this manner makes me misty eyed for the 90s when things didn't suck for the US. Lucky for the journalists and thankyou Bill Clinton, you did good work.

Cleo: I admire your committment to forcing us to accept your chosen lifestyle but I'm not having any of it. If your PERSONAL choice to be a vegeitatrian makes you feel that you are above us barbarians than good on you. By the way do you wear leather or drink milk or eat eggs or are you a strict vegan? If you utilize any animal products and I mean any then you are not being honest with yourself. The leather in your shoes came from a cow that made my burger and you are still part of the cycle you are campaigning so hard against.

This program is absolutely a criminal waste. Do you know that they run the engines of the trade ins filled with liquid glass to blow the engines? Rather than parting them out or donating them to schools for use in mechanics classes they detroy them and scrap the remains. Check out You Tube for a video of a perfectly good Volvo S80 being blown up. Let's also get that poor people who drive the real clunkers are not able to afford a new car even with the stimulus so the really crappy polluting cars stay on the road. Another brilliant Obama moment, can't wait to see how bad the compromise health reform bill will be.

That is some funny news from my home state. Good job ladies, if I was the judge I'd order the guy to repay the money and kick the women loose. Men need to realise not every woman will put up with being a door mat.

As for the vegitarian debate, it's a lot like religeon, to each their own until they start preaching it to me. I could care less what you eat but I'm not converting. I don't eat a terribly large amount of meat but enjoy the bit I do. As for saving the planet and the smug self satisfaction of some vegitarians that they are without guilt or cruelty well I can't find the words to tell you I have no time for the lot of you. When someone chooses a lifestyle that's their choice, when they prosletize they need to be tossed off the nearest cliff.

Absolutely the stupidist thing I've ever seen. If Obama had stayed above the fray in the first place there would have been no need for this "friendly beer" between these 3 men. This does nothing to adress race relations it's merely a publicity stunt for Obama to get out of a potentially stocky spot.
